The Brew

I remember the night like it was yesterday (kind of). Channel Z on 98.9 and the Big Wazoo on 107.1 signed on the same night on New Years Eve ninety ninety something.
______________

I'm pretty sure 107.1 was WAZU in mid to late December 96, before Channel Z came on. I remember uncensored Marilyn Manson and Pantera in the first few days.
______________

Right again, Chris. Like Incognito!, I had thought these changes happened simultaneously. But a quick search of the Dispatch archive confirms that Channel Z and Kix Country appeared on 12/31/96, while the Wazoo debuted a week earlier.

Hmmm...maybe starting out in the closet is good luck. The Wazoo has turned out to be one of the longest running Class A rimshot formats in the area. I was actually kind of amazed that a big-market oriented company like Infinity would even hold on to a station with such a poor signal in key parts of the market, even if it does serve a purpose as a thorn to the Blitz. I thought they would have spun the Wazoo, and maybe even K95.5. They probably would have, except that Columbus was unusual in having no big signals they could somehow acquire to pair with LVQ. Jacor and stubbornly-entrenched locals had Columbus's limited number of "rivefront property" signlas all tied up.
______________

ahh the beans are spilt and the truth be known. Haven't heard of him? You will just follow the yellow brick road through the burning bridges and the skeletons in the closet.
