The Brighter Side of Big D Radio

V

VERITAS DE VOCE

Guest
OK, sports fans, there have been a few pensive cogitations about the shady, crappy, not-so-much items in DFW radio (and yes, we know what they are). So, to the pleasure of the true auditory aficionados, please, just for kicks... what are the nice things about DFW radio? ;D

Me?

1. PPM + DFW = Not yet.
2. The standards (in this market, at least) continue to be so. As previously mentioned, note the books. KLUV, KKDA, KLTY and so on continue to rock this place. Somehow, involving the listener still works in radio.
3. Maverick radio. You know, call it what you will. "Lonestar". "Lamestar". "KZPS Jr.". At least in a top 5 market, there are still people that aren't skeered to do something new (well, kinda).
4. The prototype. Dallas has birthed many legends, all of which have been noted in previous posts. Another legend in radio now is "Guy Talk." Love it or hate it, it's here to stay and thanks to some old codger daring to try something new. Nicely done, indeed.
5. IBOC, not so much. Some "technology" just hasn't caught on. Pity, huh? ;)
6. Diversity. Tejano (or insert your niche moniker here), Urban AC, Hip Hop and just about every format you can think of (except jazz... there I said it!) is found resting along the FM dial. I have worked in many and listened to even more. There are few markets that can display the on-air melting pot that we can.
7. The little man. Number 5 market, and yet, smaller stations on lesser frequencies (welcome the fanfare from a certain station. represent, brother ;)) not only thrive but develop loyal listener base. In a world where CONsultants kill the competition and use corporate radio as their blade, it's dynamically refreshing to see the little man keep that middle finger pointed at "the man".

I could go on, but maybe I'll feel the need later. Look forward to your intellections.
