THE BULL ATTACKS ASHTABULA COUNTY

First I want to say thanks to Radio-Info and OA for you inspiration to start another local radio web-site. Below is the story... And for those who have been on my site and have seen that it has not been updated since the middle of July, thanks for sticking around, I have been through a few surgeries and getting back into the swing of things... THANKS!

Welcome Ashtabula County to the list counties served by the new Northcoast Radio.

Clear Channel has gone and done it, again... The new "Kiss FM" of country has been let loose from their "BULL" pen. 98.3 WYBL has let loose and kicked up a good amount of dust at WKKY 104.7 . So our caravan of a Red Cavalier, 2 interns and a mini disc recorder decided to drive into the vast farmlands of Ashtabula County to find out what is making Clear Channel RED. What we discovered was a station with a small identification problem. No name, just country? However, inside sources said The Bull is ready to attack, and they launched their new CC Web Site today at www.983thebull.com

Now Ashtabula mind you isn't exactly a market. It is stuck between three markets that don't want Ashtabula to screw them up. Youngstown, Cleveland and Erie. However, I still don't know why Erie hasn't gobbled it up? Why is CC putting so much effort into Ashtabula? Who knows, but I will tell you that CC would like to get a slice of the Erie Market (kinda like they did in Ft. Wayne with WDFM). Is WYBL their answer to the diaries? Who knows...

Now we will have to wait and see what WKKY is going to do with this. Last time I checked, WKKY was #3 in the Ashtabula Market 12+. I highly doubt they will stay #3.

NORTHCOAST RADIO

*Northcoast Radio is not here to compete with Ohio Media Watch or Radio-Info, however it is here to serve as another outlet for the latest radio stuff!

Thanks for the note!

One big problem with targeting Erie out of 98.3...you can't do it. It's a class A stick that presumably doesn't really reach Erie well. (I haven't been in Erie since 98.3 went on the air, so I'm just guessing.)

Here's the Radio-Locator mapping:

<a target="_blank" href=http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WYBL&service=FM&status=C&hours=U>http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WYBL&service=FM&status=C&hours=U</a>

No, what Clear Channel is doing here is filling out the cluster. One cluster, one office force, four formats, much of it voicetracked or automated.

As far as WKKY is concerned, as I've speculated more than once on the blog, WKKY seems almost more concerned with serving Lake County. This may force them over the edge, and basically have them concentrate exclusively on Lake County.

Oh, and also, I noticed the new allocation for 96.1 FM Ashtabula, which was approved earlier this year (February). The potential applicant is a broadcast engineer named Dale Puopolo, who applied for 95.9A Erie a couple of years ago. Details you know where!

OA-Your welcome!

I agree. CC must have something in their cards. Have they ever been know not to? I understand that they are trying to grow the cluster, but something smells fishy to me...

I agree that KKY is targeting Lake County, I just think they should flip formats or bow to WCLV.

The 96.1 deal... Dana, if I am not mistaken has been known to sell stations off to K-Love. Dana is a cover name just like Edgewater is to Nextmedia
However, I did find something interesting. Media One II of Jamestown has been at the bit trying to move into Erie as well. Is this their ticket into town? Ironic, Media One is the same guy who used to own Erie Broadcasting...

Anyhow, that's my rant for the day.

Thanks OA
