The Bull's Rotation

I've heard The Bull promote that the station plays all kinds of country. And I've been hearing the likes of John Mellencamp, Don McLean, Marshall Tucker Band, the Eagles and Steve Miller played in regular rotation. I tend to think of this music as sitting on the classic hits/AC borderline.

While I know that Eagle plays some of this stuff in specialized programming (Is it "Southern Fried Fridays?"), could someone who knows more than I do about programming country radio tell me if this is done and more importantly if it's worked in other markets?

To me, it doesn't sound quite like a train wreck but sounds perhaps like a train "sideswipe." But maybe it works. I'm guessing Clear Channel has research that says country listeners want to hear these songs.

It probably has a higher acceptance with the female listeners they seemed to be going after. This is of course despite the fact they carry the Braves which is intended for males last itme I checked.

Perhaps the most puzzling thing I have heard on the Bull was Fleetwood Mac. This group, like many, can be classified in many ways but I have never heard them referred to as country.

Well, part of Fleetwood, anyway... Leather and Lace used to test very high with country life group listeners.
(Stevie Nicks and Don Henly)

Thursdays are Calibration Day, and I always do the Ben Hill transmitter last. Good chance you'll findme there on a given Thursday. The option being Big Daddy's, in the old Maleer's place about fifteen miles down Fairburn Road from Abdullah's.

Your boss and his friend CM are the ones who told me about Abdullah's. I went there, and it did not disappoint; meatiest ribs I've ever had!

Littlejohn: Where is this rib place? Pardon me for inviting myself....but I need to be at this meeting!

Abdullah the Butcher is on Fairburn Road in "downtown" Ben Hill across the street from the 102.5 site. I'm not familiar with Maleer's.

Clear Channel has made a mistake with how they program music here.
Atlanta is not Houston or Cincinnati. It's somewhat quirky by the "deliverance"
of music that's different from other places.

Here we are talking about serious things - barbecue and country cookin' and this yoy wants to prattle about radio stations. Sheesh <tm> :):)
Actually, I suspect once the Elves of San Antonio get their selloff done and then privitize the operation, so they don't have so much fluff to mess with and so many people looking over their corporate shoulder, they will begin to address 'problem' markets. Of which Atlanta is certainly a leader.
