The buzz about Pulse87

Two things. First, as David pointed out Pulse won't make it into the ratings based on signal issues, their position on the dial, and the fact that 87.7 FM isn't an official frequency for an FM. It's a shame really b/c Pulse is likely the kind of Dance station that could succeed on a commercial FM frequency in NYC. It could pull better numbers then both the now defunct Jack FM, and the old sound of Mix 102.7.
Second. Country music concerts can sell out in NYC b/c it's such a huge market population-wise. Just as Opera singers and theater/Broadway shows can sell out, so too can Country music concerts. Doesn't mean there's a big enough base of millions of listeners who'd support a Country radio station though. Otherwise 102.7 would have made the flip to Country not Fresh FM, or 101.9 would have become Country and not Triple A. Based on what the PPM ratings reveal, you'll see a good number of stations abandoning the Country format in the next few years...

In Houston, the two country stations are 5th and 6th, doing much better in PPM than the diary survey. It's unlikely anyone will abandon country for the PPM, in fact.

You guys are speculating that they wont be in the ratings book. Dont you think they are working on this? If Arbitron is pushed they will get added, but even if they dont they can still sell to advertisers. Something else you are missing, PPM's do work on webstreams. Philly all the commercial stations have a second PPM box that is for the webstream.

"Pulse 87" is not a radio station.

It is the audio carrier of LPTV station WNYZ-LP, Channel 6.

I know this should be obvious to most folks, but there are too many hurdles to it becoming "counted" in the radio ratings.

I think everyone understands that, however Arbitron needs to make money. The PPM service is costing them more then they realized. Any additional revenue, I doubt they will turn down.

Will people who listen to Pulse 87 online, write down Pulse 87 in their diaries.
Pulse 87 will not count, but will it put a hole in the ratings of KTU,Z-100,Power 105.1/Hot 97 (Star and Buc Wild)?
