Listen ... they are calling themselves the Killer Bee (in honor of the Astros and the Killer B's)... and claim to have changed the station ID to KBEE-FM, but when I hear the sweeper guy, he still says KTBZ. I just want to know if this is just a publicity thing or what?

Its all in honor of the Astros winning the National League Division Championship and honoring the the Killer Bee's (Bagwell, Backe, Berkman, Bruntlett, Burke, and Biggio) They haven't actually changed the calls to KBEE (though the website doesn't actually say that). According to the FCC FM query the KBEE calls belong to an FM in Salt Lake City.

Its on The Buzz website. Here's a direct link to the info.

It won't hurt their publicity, but I think there is also a supportive dimension to this stunt.

Personally, I'm happy that a Houston radio station has grown the balls to change the name of their station "until the date of the Astros World Series victory parade."

St. Louis could very well end our incredible season again, but at least we will have stood behind our Stros'.

They've done a few remotes giving out shirts and stickers with the new logo. The station is serious about the change.

Tsunami and Katrina request-a-thons and KBEE--now 3 challenges for other stations to live up to.

I'm not always a fan of Vince's roadmap for the station, but these were 3 pretty damn creative ideas. They've been done before, but only in moderation.
Kudos.
