The Buzzard (WBZT-FM) in Upstate changing formats?

I try NOT to listen to Clear Channel stations, but I caught a little clip of the Buzzard while shopping today. Apparently, come December 25, they're changing formats, to who knows what?

My own guess is that they're going "Jack" to compete with Entercom's Charlie 106.3, since they were playing some softer rock than their usual stuff -- James Taylor's "Your Smiling Face"? On the Buzzard? Yeah. Right.

Anyone hear anything? (Or was this addressed in an earlier thread and I just missed it?)

Thanks!

Well on the website it relocated to shine967.com Shine 96.7? I wonder what the hell that could mean. Oh well so long Buzzard.

My hunch is that it could possibly be a Christian Hot AC or C-CHR format that would debut on December 25th. It would make sense for someone to try those formats in the G-SP market.

Sounds like a good fit for the market...

Finally! It's about time.

Is there REALLY room for another Christian music station? With WLFJ, WMIT, WMUU (sort of), countless AMs and Non-Comms....Entercom didn't make it, how can CC?

CC won't make it. People here like what they like, and that's that. WLFJ rules the roost in this particular genre.

Have we already forgotten how bad "the walk" did? I know it was a country-christian hybrid, but it's this kind of crossover thats targeting the same folks. 96.7 would be better off featuring Premiere talk, to take advantage of WORD's poor signal.

Exactly. Entercom tried for 3 years and they never made it...they moved it to 106.3 and it did even worse. No way would CCM be successful on the miniscule 96.7 signal. They should have done some sort of Oldies or something back in 2005. If adjusted properly, WMYI could have co-existed OK with it, CC has done it in other markets. Or FM Talk.

I guess the Rock didn't really do that bad, given the signal.

FM Talk is interesting, but anything they try will struggle with such a weak signal. I think there's room for a commercial Christian station in the market, but again depends on what direction they go with the format. The Walk wasn't doing terribly bad until it moved to 106.3.

Well, while doing a web search...I stumbled upon the secret (totally by accident). It is going to be a Christian Music station. Check this link that gives you a preview of the new site.

By the way, this was the first link that came up on Google when I typed in WBZT-FM. You'd think that a station would totally pull down the site completely until the format change...

Not that I'm a huge fan of the Buzzard .......... lately, when I listen to the radio, it's Charlie, WCCP, or Carolinas Jazz/NPR (and you practically have to have all the planets in line to pick it up some days). And I'm SOOOOOOOO tired of what the radio has become.

Thanks, Clear Channel -- you've just sent another consumer running for satellite radio! :'(

Well, if you go with XM you'll be hearing Clear Channel stations there too. Or maybe you want to go to a concert instead? Clear Channel will probably be running it. And on the way there you can see Clear Channel outdoor advertising.

OK, I actually think they spun off the concerts, but you'll still have a hard time getting away from them.
