The Buzzcocks on AARP commercial

"Everybody's Happy Nowadays" by The Buzzcocks is the song heard on the latest AARP commercial. Almost had to turn down my hearing aid :) Damn, do I feel old!

I have no problem at all with old-school punk bands licensing out their catalogs, since most of them didn't see a nickel from their work back in the 70s.

Me neither...I just have a problem hearing the music of my youth on a commercial for a senior citizens' group. That was so surprising I had to change my Depends.

I also remember The Buzzcocks "What Do I Get?" was used in a Toyota Rav4 commercial.

How long before we see "Orgasm Addict" used in an ad for a "Male Enhancement" product?

"....he's always at it!"

The Sex Pistols did a Mountain Dew commercial about 10 years ago, and Blitzkreig Bop has been used to hawk cell phones and Pepsi.

Back around 1983 Colgate did a kid's toothpaste commercial to Madness' "Baggy Trousers".

I'm still waiting for Shout laundry detergent to license out the Tears for Fears song.

I recall the Dairy Council using Adam and the Ants in a P.S.A.

I can't recall how many times I've heard Iggy Pop's "Lust For Life" in commercials. They never use the lyrics, though ("here comes Johnny, yeah ... with the liquor and drugs.")

Currently being used by one of the cruise lines (Royal Norwegian?).

Good one! And the first scene in the commercial could be a depressed looking guy with his frustrated looking partner sitting up in bed while "Something's Gone Wrong Again" blasts in the background. Suddenly the pace picks up; "well you tried it just for once, found it all right for kicks..." and all is well. Finally, as all the medical warnings flash by at the end of the commercial, they play "Oh Sh*t!"

Here comes Johnny Yen again

With the liquor and drugs

And a flesh machine

He's gonna do another strip tease

Hey man, where'd you get that lotion?

I've been hurting since I bought the gimmick

About something called love

Yeah, something called love

Well, that's like hypnotising chickens
