The Canadians are Coming...

It appears the CRTC has approved XM and Sirius for Canada. Of course, leave it to me to pick the car with XM in it and then have XM decide not to run CBC Radio network feeds (Sirius will). That alone was the primary reason I wanted XM in my car. Argh... I would kill for As It Happens, but unless I am near the WRVO STATIONS (legal IDs takes two minutes), or I can get 107.5 Kingston, I guess I am still outta luck.

More interesting is that CHUM has also been granted permission for their own terrestrial based multichannel radio service. Ontario is the first province they are interested in and want to put repeaters on all the usual places and along the lake eastwards. I wonder what kind of distance these things will get.

Other than Scott, I don't see too many rabid fans on CBC Radio on here other than myself - one of the best things about living in Buffalo instead of Rochester would be an FM dial filled out nicely with Canadian stuff.

Someone was saying the other day how sad it is that the Canadian versions of satellite radio will be using the Sirius and XM technology, since Canadians have access to technology that is much better.
I'm the very antithesis of tech-oriented...maybe Tesla Coil (who seems to know a whole lot more about these things) can enlighten us on why one form is better than the other...in layman's terms, of course.

Hmmm...the person with whom I was talking swore the XM technology was inferior.
Time will tell, I guess.
