All Spanish radio station serves growing population

To call it an old clunker would be charitable.
The body's rusted out. The seats are frayed. The passenger-side window is broken. And the odometer stopped working after creaking past 250,000 some four years ago.
Even so, Luis Montoto wouldn't think of parting with the 1988 blue Chevy pickup truck that he stores at a friend's auto repair shop in DeForest. It's not a thought, he says, because the truck symbolizes not only where he and his wife Lupita started from, but the remarkable strides they've taken since moving to Wisconsin from southern Texas shortly after being married in 1999.
"It's all we had - that and a few wedding presents in the back," says Lupita.
And keep in mind, this was only seven years ago, say the Montotos, who now manage La Movida ("The Move") WLMV/AM 1480, the only all-Spanish, 24-hour radio station in Madison, and somehow also find time to publish a newspaper, Voz Latina, every other week. Not surprisingly, they were named one of Madison's outstanding Latino businesses of 2005 by the local Latino Chamber of Commerce.
How did they rise so fast in such a short period?
Well, they did have a plan - sort of, Luis says with a grin. But mostly it was just old-fashioned perseverance, the Montotos explained over lunch last week at a west side Madison eatery. ...

Has the North American Free Trade Agreement been a raw deal for the Mexican worker?
Not necessarily, says Lupita Montoto, a native Mexican who once worked for Mexico's Commerce Department. Absolutely, says her husband, Luis, who was born and raised in McAllen, Texas, just across the border.
"It's one of the few subjects we disagree on," says Luis, who, along with his wife, manages La Movida WLMV-AM 1480, Madison's only all-Spanish 24-hour radio station. ...
