The Car Guy

Terry Box has a good article about Jerry Reynold's 'Car Guy' show:

I love this story. Here's a guy with no broadcasting experience whatsoever, who buys some of the most expensive airtime in DFW to go up against one of the best car-talk shows in the country (Wheels). Jerry says he was so green, when he opened the mic on his first show he was too terrified to even talk! So, how does he succeed? It's basic broadcasting:
1.) Build a community of interest.
2.) Serve it with honesty and integrity
3.) Hire one of the best radio-men in the business (Kevin McCarthy)
4.) Make it fun
5.) Stay with it

Kudos to the Car Guy, the Car Guy Side-kick and the Car Gal. May you have many more successful years to come.

Jerry is a class act, and so is his son B.J.

Yes, he can make the car buying experience pleasant.

His show is also heard in Houston and will be after the first in L.A.

Used to listen to Wheels religiously until the days after 9-11. Ed kinda lost his shine for me after listening to him talk about things other than cars. :(

The show was a good thing all around. Radio needed K-Mac back, and K-Mac needed radio back, but on HIS terms this time.

And when Jerry tells you to email him with any questions about anything, he responds. Even a service issue I had once with his Prestige Ford, he got right on it and gave me a REAL answer. I remember the days of looking up "Zone Offices" and writing long letters to get ANYTHING done at a dealership that shrugged off their mistakes.

For me personally, that was the first shift I was assigned to at Traffic.com, during "The Car Guy Show"...so I listened regularly every week for quite some time.

"Tyler Cox, who has worked with Reynolds at WBAP for eight years"...wasn't Tyler at KRLD for the bulk of the eight years The Car Guy's been running? Tyler came back to ABCitadel in 2006, IIRC.

"he won't accept advertising from dealers with business practices he considers deceptive"...Boy, that must rule out 90% of the dealers in DFW. Talk to ANYONE who's ever sold used cars at a dealership for a living. Please check your conscience at the door.

Wow, Horn-Williams Ford, Buckner and Bruton Rd in "The Grove." Spent my earliest days growing up a mile from there, in the shadow of the old K-SKY transmitter!!
