The CBS 2024-25 season thread

4 years is an impressive renewal. Although i wonder if there is anything in the renewal agreement preventing CBS from shifting the show to streaming only as NBC did with DOOL.

Sony (which owns Days and Y&R) was blindsided by the move as were a lot of NBC affiliates. Syndicated TV isn’t cheap anymore to air at all and clearly a show like NBC News Daily was DOA, while CBS The Talk had collapsed and plummeted.

Diminished ratings are still ratings and there are only so many talk shows (talk shows no longer have the type of buzz and popularity that they once had during their heydays) and game shows that they can fill up time slots with. To replace a 50+ year old show with just another game show or cheap talk show no one watches , the backlash that would ensue…it just wouldn’t be worth it.

Will they still be recycling dismal plots and decrepit characters from the 1980s for another four years?

Now that another 4 years are slotted, it will be very interesting to see whether the execs decide that what they are doing now is adequate and they’re going to ride the wave or if they feel confident enough to attempt to make some actual changes, bearing in mind that change is not always for the better, especially the way these shows have been known to make them.

Keep in mind there was an article recently stating the average age of a soap viewer these days is 70 years old, and obviously unlike the 80s, 90’s and even early ‘00’s the soaps definitely not picking up anyone younger than that.

NBC News Daily was DOA,
It’s nothing of the sort.

CBS did fine with the “backlash” from the mercy killings of Guiding Light and As the World Turns. This backlash thing is beyond exaggerated.

I'll watch Tulsa King at least the plot I did watch Sly's reality TV show with his family which was pretty good when MTV aired it before season 2 on Paramount+.
