The CBS 2026-2027 season thread

I understand (although don’t like) the Saturday night “encores”, especially when CBS used to be the network in the 70s to watch on Saturday night for their sitcoms and Carol Burnett. But this Sunday night “encores” at 10 pm surprises me and I think is new. I thought Sunday night was the night had the most viewers/highest ratings in broadcast tv.

Has to do with NFL doubleheaders since most run over 7PM and CBS doesn't want to move 60 Minutes or cut it to 30 minutes. Why they go with repeats at 10PM on Sun in the fall. Always thought that CBS should've gone with a postgame show like FOX does during NFL doubleheaders in my opinion.

are the reruns joined in progress to not push the local station's news too late?

All doubleheader late window NFL games run past 7pm ET as kickoff is at 4:25. CBS expects a 7:30pm start for prime time on those days.

You have decades of 60 Minutes following the end of football, and CBS probably doesn’t want to disrupt audience flow with a postgame that would delay programming further. Also you can’t reduce the time for 60 Minutes on the east coast feed; what would you do with the show on the west coast feed?

No, not on CBS. Keep in mind that if the late doubleheader game runs past 7:50 CBS Sports will likely fill until 8pm and the final “encore” show will be dropped on the east coast feed to get stations’ late news back on time (west cost viewers would still see the encore episode.)
