The CBS ax hits Cleveland; WDOK PD Scott Miller fired!

OMW has it:

http://ohiomedia.blogspot.com/2008/02/breaking-news-wdoks-miller-ex-cleveland.html

Longtime WDOK program director Scott Miller was canned by parent CBS Radio in the wake of their 5% across-the-board employment slashing. He's been PD since 2000, when he took over Dave Popovich... who, ironically, now works at sister station WQAL, just down the hall from WDOK. Presumably, Skippy will likely have to do double duty at One Radio Lane.

This comes one week after hiring WKYC's programming director Terry Moir as Trapper Jack's co-host, and after bringing on-board both Scott Glazer (also a WQAL fill-in, which wasn't a shock given his previous WMVX ties with Skippy) and former WRMR PD Jim Davis as weekenders.

Also on the chopping block was CBS-Pittsburgh GM Jim Meltzer, who was the GM for CC-Cleveland until 2005.

It's about time, Scott certainly had it coming. As a past WDOK weekend jock, I was treated like crap there. I started at WDOK in the fall of 1997 when Sue Wilson was still running the show. I enjoyed working for her, but things would only get worse until I was let go in the fall of 2002. Scott was tolerable when he was the production director, but when Sue announced she was leaving in June of 1999 to consult for McVay Media, I think Scott thought he would get the PD spot. To his dissapointment, Dave Popovich was hired in the summer of 1999 to program the station. The following summer Dave left WDOK and the station had no PD for about two months. Before Dave left, Scott quit WDOK to take a PD job in the south. Once Scott learned Dave left WDOK, he put in for the PD job again and ended up getting it in early September of 2000. I liked WDOK's general manager Chris Maduri, but this was an awful decision. Not only did Scott not have any PD experience,(except for his whole month and a half down in Mobile, AL) but he also didn't have a whole lot of people skills either. When he got the PD gig, the job got the best of him. He promised bigger things, but never delivered on anything. He knit picked on air checks constantly and blamed me periodically for computer problems with that wonderful Scott Studio automation system they had at the time. If you could help him out that was great, but if you needed something it was a problem. When I wanted to take two weekends off in September to go on vacation he gave them to me, but he wasn't happy about it. When I came back from vacation, he called me in for what I thought would be a normal aircheck session. It was anything but! He let me go stating Infinity Radio was watching their budget. Yeah right, I'm sure they were looking to save millions by letting part-timers like me go who picked up all the odd ball shifts and vacations for all their full-timers. We'll needless to say, I'm glad that over five years later the same company is still watching their budget. Only now, Scott Miller can help them watch their budget from the outside looking in at the studios at One Radio Lane! :)
