The CBS Evening News With...Rush Limbaugh

It was an all-in-fun graphic on Rush's site a few months ago. Now it's real: Rush will have his 90 seconds
of fame in the MSM (mainstream media, or drive-by media) with a spot on the Katie Couric Show--er
CBS Eve. News...(Thursday)

from Rush's site:
http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/home/daily/site_090506/content/america_s_anchorman.guest.html

"When the Drive-By Media offers 90 seconds of a 22-minute program -- an opportunity for me to express our views, my views, without debate, without somebody coming on afterwards to refute it -- and that's part of the feature, by the way. They've assured me and everybody they talked to that you do your piece on X night, the next night's not going to be somebody responding or replying, although I have heard that George Clooney has already asked for equal time (laughing) to respond to me....
So I did it as an opportunity to reach that audience, which is about -- I bet she gets over eight million people this week every night, maybe a little bit more."

Darn _Conservative_ Media (for 90 seconds anyway!) ;D
(Katie gets to have more than enough time to possibly inject her views, or control what gets on the
air--read BIAS about "Dan Rather...CBS News...")

Wow... let's toss more of the 22 minute news hole away. CBS would have been smarter to leave Katie with the airbrushed bod on Today and keep Bob Schieffer right where he was, which saw great ratings improvement for the languishing CBS Evening News. A core rule of news, IMHO, is "who the hell cares what you think" and that applies to journalists and other non-newsmakers on a newscast. Handing commentary time over to anyone takes away from the whole point of the evening news... to report news (and yes I realize they have been shirking on that responsibility for years anyway).

Rush will deliver a condensed, predictable 90 second set of talking points promoting conservative candidates, and by next week, we'll have someone like James Carville doing the same for the other side. None of it is news. None of it belongs on the evening news.

If I am an advertiser or potential advertiser I'd be scared.

CBS has been promoting "The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric" nonstop only to see it hijacked -- its first day on the air! -- by Mr. Right-Wing Radio.

Remember when Limbaugh wanted to do Monday Night Football on ABC? He took it upon himself to audition. ABC brushed him off because the network correctly feared a backlash from listeners AND advertisers.

Commentary such as this probably belongs at the end of 60 Minutes like it used to be years ago (the old Point/Counterpoint).

But who says The CBS Evening News with Katie Cupcake will be a "normal" newscast in the future anyway? CBS has nothing to lose whatsoever by trying something different - even if it's a Today Show-type newscast (not that they've been successful doing a Today Show competitor in the mornings).

Ms. Couric doesn't exactly have the journalistic reputation of Walter Cronkite or Bob Schieffer and will never be in their league. She's Baba Wawa Lite and her being an evening news anchor will never change that.

It appears she does have Uncle Walter introducing her fluff-cast each night. How could Cronkite have stooped to that?

I thought that was just a one-time thing, mostly as a professional courtesy.

Because if there's anyone bringing credibility toward electronic media...it's Rush Limbaugh. ::)

Here's hoping you're right Keith.

What are you talking about 'stooping'? Cronkite has forgotten more about TV and journalism than most of us will ever know. I kind of doubt anyone put a gun to his head or threatened to steal his EnsureTM. If Cronkite's comfortable voicing intros for CBS, great. I've got no problem with it. Lighten up.

see: "Network" (1976). All we need is 1) to interview terrorists in-studio and 2)for Sweet Polly PureBred to interview the Iranian President when he hits the U N...um..in a matter of speaking.

Guess what??? Cronkite RETIRED (i.e. voluntarily took himself out of the position) in 1981, over 25 years ago.

...Cronkite only retired from day-to-day anchoring. He was told by the CBS brass that he could stay on to develop documentary projects, so he stayed on the CBS News payroll in that capacity expecting a green liight that never came...

Because Walter CRANKENHOUSE, a so-called Journalistic Icon is like all the other leftist media types out there--wallowing in their own mental dysfunctions--it goes for Couric, Walters, all in the out of touch MSM. I have not been watching CBS News myself, I've been watching Special Report on Fox News Channel--and I know you people who hate Fox--well live with this--it's gonna be 10 years since FNC came on the air--and it's number 1 in most if not all timeslots.

Leftist media types? Man you gotta get out of the house, or at least try watching something besides Fox (Republican controlled) TV.

However, there is barely any true journalism left in this country. No one reports facts without opinion anymore. FOX, CNN, CBS,, they should all be embarrassed by how they have let ratings become more important that reporting the news. We are supposed to have freedom of the press, to report news, not opinion.

Also, who exactly is Main Stream America? How is FOX so in-touch and no one else is? Maybe because FOX News is nothing more than a Republican propaganda machine.

Oh...okay...so not only is the news media blatantly left-wing, its needs professional mental health attention. They're certainly nothing like the healthy, even keeled, heterosexual red-bloods performing on the stage known as 'The Fox News Channel'.

::) Whatever. At least have the decency to use some real street narcotics when posting instead of sniffing your aunt's orange-scented ammonia...your crazed thought has been slipping, as of late.
