The Changes at Star 94

This weekend I listened to Star 94.

I mean, I really listened to the station. It has been awhile since I really paid attention to their music mix since the last few years the blend has been so bland.

IMO, they are definitely making a right turn towards Q100. There were some songs they played that kinda surprised me. When you hear Usher next to Jordin Sparks and Ne-Yo, you know things are turning.

One part of me thinks this a smart move but another part of me says this is 1987 all over again.

Power 99 came on strong in 1986. The next year Z-93 starts to mimic Power 99 instead of staying true to itself. Power 99 started playing Yaz's "Situation." A few weeks later Z churns "Situation," which by the way was a non-current. This copy-cat routine turned out to be disastrous for Z-93. In 1988 they turned churban and the next year, as we all know, it bailed out of the format altogether.

This summer will be pivotal for WSTR Smyrna-Atlanta.

I don't think there's any doubt Star is trying to sound like Q. What I don't get is why now. Q is just now on the big stick, Bert is rolling as well as ever, and there is no way TMM will steal any of their listeners.

I agree with #5. Is he still with XM?

Who we talkin about? JoJo or Tracy?

Must mean JoJo. JoJo did afternoons Q100, Tracy did middays. (althrough at the beginning of Q's existance Tracy was noon-4pm and JoJo was 4pm-8pm; so technically Tracy for a time overlapped into the afternoon daypart). And who did 10am-noon? Does anyone remember Mr. Ed?

And then, as soon as Z93 was finished, 94Q did basically the same thing in 1989. Again, Power won and 94Q became Star 94.

Cycles.

Yes, the poster was referring to JoJo. But #5 has disappeared from the board. Maybe the poster had second thoughts.

Mr. Ed wasn't bad, and he was the original day-to-day PD of Q100. We older listeners understood the Mr. Ed reference and the sound of the horse he played. But I doubt most Q100 listeners knew what the Mr. Ed thing was about.

Mr. Ed went back to Dallas, where he was known as...Mr. Ed. I think he worked at 2 stations after returning, but I don't know where he is now. Maybe we should ask Domino now that we've found him.

Mr Ed. Went to Sacremento...I think to be closer to his Dad ??? and if not mistaken is now in Bend OR as an Ops Manager and probably one hell of a trout fisherman.
