I saw several movies set during The Depression and enjoyed the music in these movies. I'm wondering where one can hear such music on the radio. Maybe an NPR station that plays jazz.
I do know that Chrlotte had a standards station at one time that aired a program called "Jazzology" hosted by the station's owner. There was a lot of this sort of music. I think the man also owned the Jazzology record label and was endlessly promoting the CDs that had this music. I haven't ever remembered to check the standards station that's there now, which has the same owner, but they may do it too. I think this show just runs on the stations this man owns, and I don't know how many there are.
Even now, the Charlotte standards station has a feature called "A Moment in Musical History" (the only time anyone explains the music, since there are no longer DJs) and they tell us at that time you can buy this great music on the Jazzology label. It's usually just the one song, but there's always a story.
