The Charlie Tuna Show

In Dubuque, IA, he's on weeknights at 7pm CT. I gotta wonder, though...Which radio stations carry the AC and country versions?

I don't know about the AC and Country versions of Charlie Tuna, but I do know he is on Sunday nights at Classic Hits KONO AM/FM Helotes San Antonio.

In 1966 at KOMO in Oklahoma City, newsman Chuck Riley had to do an airshift as a DJ. He didn't want to use his real name so he called himself Charlie Tuna, after the animated character in Star-Kist commercials. Then Art Ferguson took over the show and he became the new Charlie Tuna. (He should have played alongside Mike Trout on the Angels.) He's worked at what seems like half of the stations in Los Angeles, including KHJ, KRLA, KLAC, KBIG, KIIS, KTNQ, KHTZ, KROQ, KMPC, KODJ and KRTH. Links to listen to to his five-hour show live are at http://blackcardradio.com/?p=1446

KYNO in Fresno airs a three-hour version of the show.

"Staah Kist don't want tunas with good taste. They want tuna that tastes good."

You're welcome.

The Landtuna (no relation)

The original voice of Charlie the Tuna was actor Herschel Bernardi, who played Tevye in Fiddler On The Roof on Broadway and co-starred in Peter Gunn and Mr. Novak. The voice itself was patterned after Phil Silvers, who starred as Sgt. Bilko on The Phil Silvers Show. "Glad'a-seeya!"

Charlie does a country show? Current or classic? What years does it cover. Here, all we get is his '70s show on DRC-FM Sunday nights. Now that Tom Kent has been replaced 7-12 weeknights by local Ron Sedaille (voicetracked, I believe), Charlie and "Beatle Brunch" on Sunday mornings are the only non-local shows left.

Charlie supplies the content between the records. It's up to the stations to decide the music. His interviews seem to center around today's Country artists. Here's a link to the demo:
