The cheap channel A/C music simulcast

They were doing this briefly during middays a few years ago, then stopped, but Magic 107.7 & Lite Rock 99.3 are back to (or have been for some time now) playing the same music at practically the same time most of the day, every day. The few exceptions I've heard so far are when WLRQ runs Deliah & WMGF's Glory of Joy. Even during the 8 hours a day they have actual live body's in the studio, it's the same songs. I know they're using the premiere radios version of a DVR for the music, but for two separate stations who's signals overlap quite a bit to be both playing the same thing within minutes of each other is pretty sad. So much for individuality. Yea I know, that went away with the signing of the telcom act of 1996
FWIW though, one could play a neat game with some unsuspecting people. Find out which station is ahead of the other, go over to someone's house have them put on the station that's behind and tell them you could bet them that you could guess the next song that comes on. It could be a real hit at parties. You could call it the cheap channel game ;D

That's embarrassing. Just ran a test like you suggested and sure enough, they're following the same list. In fact, the breaks are identical with Jana on 107.7 and John Test actually backselling the previous song on 99.3. Then... they both ran weather forecasts, a sweeper, and then rolled right back into the same playlist. Listeners in Eastern Orange or Brevard have had to noticed this. Let's say one or the other goes to break and you punch over to the other and you hear the same song ending well... into a break. DUMB and LAZY.

Too bad they're not letting Mike Lowe actually program 99.3 anymore. Kind of wish he'd jump ship back to WA1A for mornings one last time before he sails off into retirement.

There's very little overlap of audience, so what difference does it make? Listeners in Palm Bay and Melbourne don't get Magic, and that's Lite Rock's money area. And no one in Orlando listens to Lite Rock. Brenda did middays on both stations at the same time for years and about five people noticed. And three if them were in radio.

I noticed Lite 96.1 in Jacksonville did the same thing with Magic 107.7 here in Orlando a couple of years ago...

But 96.1 and 107.7 are owned by two different companies, which are Renda and Clear Channel respectively. I believe the similar programming you heard on both stations was the syndicated program "Delilah After Dark" that is aired during the evenings on weekdays.

It also could of been John Tesh.

Interestingly, around 1985 there were four area FM stations simultaneously airing Transtar 41's mainstream adult contemporary satellite fed programming. If you happened to be in the Ocala /Gainesville area, you could hear the same format on WGLV 97.7 Gainesville, WAIV 96.9 Jacksonville, WCFI 101.9 Daytona Beach and WJYO 107.7 Orlando, each with a very clear signal.
