The best station in the ATL is Power 105.3....oh wait...that's just in my dreams. NEVERMIND!!

The original purpose of this posting was to say that CNN is kicking FOX's ass as far as covering Hurricane Dennis in the FL panhandle. While CNN is showing live coverage of roofs flying off and trees bending and flying around and powerlines falling and all the EXCITING stuff, Fox news is talking about how all of these hurricanes affect the morale of Floridians......BORING!! CNN's coverage is GREAT! Good job Anderson Cooper and crew! CNN will always be the station to watch when news is being made!

Agreed...

I'm not normally a huge fan of CNN, but they've done a fine job with their hurricane coverage today from what I can tell just flipping over there when the Braves game goes to commercial.

Drudge disagrees

On his radio show, Drudge really made fun of CNN's coverage of Dennis. He said because of budgetary cutbacks, CNN could only afford to trot out Solidad O'Brien to anchor the coverage. He also made fun of Anderson Cooper's reporting from the field. He didn't say it but I betcha he perfered Fox's coverage. It will be interesting to get O'Reilly's take.....oh yea he doesn't watch CNN.....but I am sure if he did...and he looked hard enough he could find a liberal bias in it.Now my opinion. Too much repitition. There is only so much you can say about wind and rain..and some of these reporters say it over and over. How many times did they mention this could be the first Category 4 to hit the panhandle in July? Also, there is way too much self-congratulation on all the cable networks. The anchor praises the meteorologist and the reporter and the reporter inturn passes on the praise to the camera man...but they never mention the photographer's name.

Re: Drudge disagrees

Even though he missed out on the real action in Destin,
Weather Channel's Mike Seidel is the best reporter out
there for pure enthusiasm. I can here him now..."oh look,
a piece of metal roofing from this 12 story condo just
sheared off my left leg. I'm okay, the rushing salt water
waves crashing into me will keep me from infection until
the commercial break...oh, we're commercial free during
the hurricane..that's not good."

Jim Cantore is right there with
him, but he get's to much attention for being a hunk
factor from women! One lady he interviewed yesterday
admitted a friend sent her into the hurricane for his
autograph.

I fully expect one of those channels to try to sacrifice
a reporter in one of the hurricane's this summer.

I hope it won't be Mike or Jim, though.

This isn't journalism..its entertainmet

Hurricane reporting isn't necessarily 100% journalism....because at least 30% is entertainment. These guys are really just out there entertaining most of us...There really is no need for the reporter to stand out there in the wind and rain...you can easily just point the camera at the hurricane to show what is happening. Instead, they put reporter out there screaming over the howling wind because...its entertaining....and the viewer watches to see the reporter take a beating...and ofcourse there is always a chance he or she could get nailed by flying debre...its almost equal to why some people watch NASCAR....the possibilty of something bad happening. Why do you think Geraldo and his brother always pack up at the last minute to cover the cane? Becuase its a great chance to do some ENTERTAINING TV.

Generally I prefer FOX, because I like their politics better. But I, too, have to give this one to CNN. I was especially impressed by their in-house meteorologists, who seemed to have a better grasp on what was happening and did a good job of explaining it.
