The "Cola Nut" Dies

Who can forget those iconic 7-Up commercials featuring the "Cola Nut"?

Geoffrey Holder, whose energetic laugh helped sell cans of 7Up in the '70s and '80s, has died at the age of 84.

Story here.

Mr. Holder had a very interesting life...besides being known for the 7up ads, he was also an artist, dancer/choreographer, film director, and costume designer--a "jack of all trades".

My wife and I visited the California African-American Museum here in Los Angeles earlier this year, and they had an exhibition of his works (and along with that of his wife, Carmen de Lavallade); it was very facscinating, and it was surely a credit to his creativity.

And even Wikipedia already had been updated on his death, due to complications from pneumonia (wow!! I actually got the spelling right on that...sometimes I surprise myself  )

No, he was holding up Kola Nuts (the correct spelling for them) and then he held up a Lime and Lemon and called them UNcola nuts...watch the video.

Wikipedia is very good about reporting deaths of celebrities. Sometimes too good. People watch articles so vandalism or rumors won't get in.

I remembered the "punch line" without even having to watch the video...(sipping the 7-Up)..."Mahhh-velous! Just try making that out of a Kola nut! Ah-ha, ha, ha, ha, ha..."
