The Country Network Becomes ZUUS Country

And with the new management came late night infomercials. ::) Did the people at ZUUS remember their biggest chain, Sinclair pretty much let TheCoolTV go and didn't renew their contract when they added infomercials everywhere they could?

A few infomercials a day are fine. Block scheduling them in four-six hour intervals is why RTV these days is a network stuck on a few irrelevant low-power stations these days,

It must be pretty new. This article is the only thing I could find.

ZUUS Media has launched its groundbreaking music video multi-channel network with reach across TV, web, connected TV and mobile devices. In collaboration with major labels and over 75 independents, ZUUS will give music fans an expertly curated, lean-back viewing experience. Currently in public beta, ZUUS will offer 100+ digital channels spanning a wide variety of music genres and four linear, genre-specific TV channels. ZUUS features one of the largest catalogues of music videos and will launch original content including live footage, behind-the-scenes access, interviews, artist-hosted shows and more. ZUUS' team of music industry experts empowers music enthusiasts to watch their favorite music videos whenever they want, wherever they want.

"ZUUS fills the void left in the landscape when music channels migrated to reality content," explains ZUUS co-founder and CEO, Steve Goldstein. Yeah, like MTV!

He continued, "There is a massive demand for music video content but a lack of destinations for people to sit back and enjoy it. We're excited to introduce ZUUS to the marketplace; there's nothing out there like it."

I guess YouTube doesn't count...

Maybe TCN was bleeding money when ZUUS purchased them, and the only way to reduce the bleeding was to add infomercials. I doubt that will be enough for them though.

Or VEVO TV on Roku, despite the obvious fact that they're missing Warner Music Group artists.

Sinclair dropped TheCoolTV because of lack of payment......as did most other providers who carried CoolTV

And the purchase and insertion of infomercials is probably intended to pay off debts going back to the network's start in Birmingham five years ago. Judging from what I've heard here and there, it's a big hole to get out of, and having yet another country music channel with only 'keeping up appearances' connections to Nashville isn't going to help. And it hasn't helped that the ZUUS playlist might as well be the generic master Clear Channel 'new country' playlist with video, with the archived videos moving into non-prime periods.

This "ZUUS" or whatever is not airing in my market on any subchannels. I think I can get it online however.

TV networks, like everything else, are businesses. They have people and bills to pay to keep things going. If the response ads they were airing aren't enough to pay the bills, maybe they can make up the difference by airing infomercials. If they can't, bills go unpaid, and eventually, the network ceases to exist.

As others have already pointed out, Sinclair dropped TheCool TV for not paying them. Sinclair doesn't give this airtime away for free, these networks have to pay for it (because they don't have a brand that pays for itself). Either they do that by letting the station sell and insert local ads, or they just write the broadcaster a check.

In the world of publicly traded companies and venture capitalists, everything has to have a return on investment. If not, then it doesn't happen, or is ended.

So I suppose no more country music by night at the max volume for me :-\
