I know this is tv talk, but it is sort of a follow up to some recent WB22/Lubbock posts:

So now that the new television network "The CW" has been announced, along with the folding of BOTH UPN and The WB, what will happen to the affiliates?

The news story states that all of Tribune's UPN affiliates will become affs of "The CW", but what about in other markets, like say... Lubbock or Dallas?

I think it's likely that The CW will be on channel 22 (currently The WB)in Lubbock, and the future of channel 14 (currently UPN) unknown.

But in Dallas... will UPN 21 get The CW, or will The WB33 become The CW?
Houston? CW20 or CW39?

Los Angeles? CW5 (KTLA) or CW13 (KCOP)?

It sounds like whatever is going to happen is going to happen fast (within the year). Kind of funny since Lubbock's WB22 just signed on, and UPN just moved to channel 14... I wonder if Ramar knew about "The CW"

I was wondering the same thing. I'd say it's a 99% certainty that 22 will become the CW. What I'm wondering is, will the CW have a bigger budget than UPN 22? I mean, this is big time stuff here! It might be kind of interesting to see if they throw a newscast on 22, say a 6pm news hour or maybe put the 4pm newscast on 22?

Other than that, I too am wondering what happens to 14? I bet it goes back to being a shopping channel, if it doesn't go away altogether.
But you have to feel bad for anybody who got hired over there since they essentially had a new tv station to prgaram, and now, they're going back to two anyway.

Can't really say about Dallas. But I would presume, which ever station has the bigger budget or profile will become CW.

What's been lost in all this is the fact that CBS is really in charge. Even though they say "50-50" split, the truth is, the WB half of the split, is itself split between Tribune and Time-Warner. So in reality, it's at 25-25-50 split, with CBS getting the biggest chunk, and the "CBS" in the begining of the name.

So, imho, for all intents and purposes, this is CBS buying WB, and merging it with UPN.

These two are answered in the press release. KDAF 33 gets CW in Dallas, and KTLA gets it in Los Angeles.
 
The union of CBS and Time Warner. The "C" is for CBS Corp and the "W" is for Warner as in Time Warner.

Not really true... Tribune is giving up it's ownership for the 10 year affiliation agreement on its WB or UPN stations. The truth is that it is actually a 50-50 split between Time-Warner and CBS. Tribune is out. That comes straight from AP/Reuters... etc

As far as Houston goes, KHWB 39 would become the CW affiliate since it is owned by Tribune Broadcasting. KTXH 20 is locally owned and operated by our Fox affiliate KRIV 26. I would assume that KTXH 20 would operate as an independant affiliate of 26 running Fox programming re-runs and such. It's going to be strange to watch Smackdown! on 39.
