Here in Denver, we have the recent purchase of KTVD 20 by Gannett, who would, due to KWGN 2 being owned by Tribune, wind up without a network. This begs the question as to how the announcement will affect the completion of the sale of KTVD to Gannett - or will it?
It also begs the question as to what Gannett will do with KTVD once they take possession of it. My bet is they'll either use it as a bargaining chip to purchase a network station somewhere else (not likely) OR (this is the most likely scenario IMO) they'll simply run it as a traditional Indie ala KRON 4, KTVK 3, WJXT 4 (only better managed & programmed) that would focus on LOCAL programming which would include OTA rights the Nuggets, Avs, and (maybe!) the Rockies (assuming FSN and Gannett can work out an arrangement for airtime that is).
As for KTXU 57 in Colorado Springs (the current UPN affiliate), they will simply become the CW affiliate regardless of whether or not they remain with KXRM 21. KGJT 27 in Grand Junction (the current UPN affiliate) will probably no doubt become the CW affiliate there.
BTW...If anyone wants to read the entire article on the official announcement of the merger, it is available on the DENVER board (No, I didn't post it. I only saw it there). Just FYI.
Cheers
