The CW might have just found its niche

They are cashing in on the whole vampire craze that was started by the success of the movie "Twilight." After years of trying to create an identity for themselves, The Vampire Diaries is doing well with young female audiences, according to the trade "Media Life"

I wonder if this means that more vampire-related shows are coming their way in the next season?

Funny it comes in the form of vampires with Vampire Diaries considering the WB(and later to some extent UPN) had big success with another vampire themed show, Buffy along with other supernatural programs like Charmed, Angel, Roswell etc. In addition Heather Locklear is coming to Melrose Place. Yes indeed the the b!tch is back!

I don't use praise shows on these boards, but I've really enjoyed "the Vampire Diaries" since its premiered. Its the one new show of the season I've actually stuck with. Maybe the CW really is on to something.

Just to be clear, I hate vampires, sci-fi, etc. and only watched because I have a crush on Nina Dobrev.

OTOH, "Moonlight" fizzled after only one season on CBS (2007-08) although perhaps the Eye Network's older demos weren't the right fit for a vampire show.

Based on the ratings and relative interest level, the CW's "niche" might just be at the Museum of Broadcast History. ;D
