THE DANGER OF AIRING OLDER PSAs

I won't mention the station in order not to cause embarrassment, but a certain station in the market airs PSAs voiced by two well known celebrities who readily identify themselves at the beginning of the announcement (i.e., "Hi, this is----"). The two celebrities I speak of are actress Rue McClanahan and actor Jack Lemmon.

The thing is that both of these individuals are deceased. Rue McClanahan died June 3, 2010 and Jack Lemmon has been gone since June 27, 2001...eleven years ago!

This isn't an earth shattering thing, but it sounds kind of weird to hear a well known person telling you to protect the environment, or to get exercise for better health, when they are no longer with us.

It's happened intentionally on TV, I do know that. Dixie Carter made a PSA in 2003 for Spasmodic Torticolis, and it started airing nationwide in 2010 months before she died... it was airing through at least early 2012, but they did add "Dixie Carter 1939-2010" to the bottom of the screen.

It was also weird to see Billy Mays infomercials after he had died...
