The Daytime & Prime time Emmy Awards should be merged.

Into one telecast. That's what I see in about a couple of years from now. This year, The Daytime Emmys will be shown June 23rd-On a Saturday-over on HLN, a cable network, rather than on ABC, CBS, FOX or NBC. All four major networks have all declined to carry the telecast. Furthermore, Daytime TV's landscape has been shifted more towards Courtroom Dramas & Talk Shows as The Daytime Soaps we all love to have been dwindled down to only just four. ABC's All My Children & One Life to Live were both cancelled this season and were replaced by The Chew and The Revolution, Respectively and The Latter has just got cancelled, and will be replaced by Katie (A Syndicated Show) on September 10th

As much as that would make common sense, it wouldn't be done. Right now the Primetime show is already backlogged to three hours of content and adding or removing one award takes years of red tape (look at the merger of TV movie and miniseries categories not finally being solidified until 2010). Adding all of the Daytime awards would not result in them being given any priority, but they would be squished in Grammy style as 'awarded in an earlier ceremony' and doled out in list/bottom third form. Nobody watching the primetime ceremony would be drawn in to hear who won best instructional show or children's program.

More likely it either goes to an awards banquet or press conference awarding with later UPS'ing of trophies to winners once it can't get any coverage on a channel. The HLN ceremony is bound to fail unless there's heavy promotion since it's only replacing moldy 'crime recap' shows nobody watches on Saturday nights.
