Looking at the listings on zap2it.com, Newsworld International dies at 6:00 AM on July 31st with the last show being "Hot Type".

Thanks Al for buying this channel and replacing it with crap!
Why couldn't you have purchaced HGTV?
I wish you all the success of New Coke!
______________

Some systems will be replacing it with Al's new channel, Current, while others will be replacing it with something else -- or nothing at all.

I think my Bright House system in Tampa Bay has Newsworld, but they won't be carrying Current.

Personally I would love to see CBC Newsworld take its place, as there is very little Canadian content in the US, and the Canadian content that is on in the US tends to be crappy HGTV-type crap.
______________

And it's only made in Canada (specifically Ontario) because of the tax deduction or whatever the government does to get shows produced there.

The only shows that I can think of made in Canada that are shown the US are, as you stated, many of the programs on HGTV (except, of course "Decorating Cents" (aka "We found this beautiful, refinished dining room table in a dumpster"), which is set in Minneapolis). There are two other shows, though, "Degrassi: The Next Generation" and "Instant Star", which are produced for Canada's CTV but also air on The N.

An idea would be to have CBC, CTV and Global to place their best Canadian programming, add CTV's Canada AM and CBC's The National, and create a cable channel for the United States. BBC America is similar in taking programs from different networks (So Graham Norton aired on Channel 4) and placing them on one network to essentially provide the culture in a nutshell.

I'm surprised that some systems are dumping Newsworld when the change takes place, specifically because the channel was purchased in note because of its cable carriage. To me, at least, Current TV appears to be an interesting concept. The theme of the moment seems to create different uses of television and radio to keep viewers and listeners away from the internet and iPods, and by providing new alternatives such as KYOU, Air America, Jack FM, and now Current TV, the existing media resources will have at least a few more years of life.

Peter Mansbridge wants to hear from all of you. I heard
him say on The National Tuesday night that if you have a
comment about the loss of the CBC's flagship newscast,
go to www.cbc.ca and you can post your thoughts. AFAIK,
The National will still be streamed on CBC's website, but
I think it's at 11:30 PM (ET). Somebody correct me on this.

Bright House in Orlando will be carrying Current, it says it on their channel lineup page (effective date August 1, 2005).
______________
