The Deed is Done!

I called to cancel XM today. I was offered two free months to not cancel. They couldn't believe it when I say NO to such a wonderful offer. It's nearly $18 per month now unless you agree to give them direct access deposit or credit card info, which I would never do. You can save about $2 per month if you give them that info... Before cancelling, they wanted my email address, too. I refused. The SPAMMING of America must be stopped (or slowed down!).

With $5 gas, who can afford to be doing much driving and also pay for a radio service you won't be using so much anymore? And besides, I have over 10,000 mp3 files of music in my personal collection to listen to when I DO drive somewhere!

The new rate hikes pushed me to my edge....

I dumped my radio subs over a year ago and all I have now is SiriusXM Online (don't regret the decision). I will continue to use my collection of audio files when mobile (due mostly to lousy audio through the tuners).

10,000 MP3 files?!?!?!
That must'a cost more than satellite radio. :D

I keep getting come back letters offering me 6 months for $25. I can do without it. I too have tons of MP3 and AAC files. I'm taking a trip at the end of the month and also plan to load up the iPod with fresh podcasts in case I get tired of all the music.

True... These files were gleaned from my 20+ Year Collection of CDs (which I did purchase). Now I listen ONLY to the music I like and won't have to pay the seemingly rising XM fees.

I've got Sirius for a free trial in my car, and wow, the audio is just fingernails on a chalkboard. It truly has gotten as bad as a 20KB internet dial-up swirl-o-matic. I don't remember my XM sounding this horribly artificial in the car. I really wish they would have bought some more spectrum when Liberty bought-in so that they could transmit some half-way decent sounding music audio again, like XM did in 2004.

There is no reason to pay for SXM anymore, EXCEPT, for rebroadcasts of Casey Kasem's AT40 70's shows and Lou's 60's Satellite Survey. IF you could get internet radio in your car for $18 a month, I would dump SXM for sure as it would be the better bargain.

Well, you can get Internet radio in your car. Download Iheart or other sources, turn on the bluetooth and listen. Sound quality on Iheart is great, and the playlist is bigger than XM

Well. Bye. Don't let the door hit your behind on the way out.

And those of you saying to stream via cell phone, you do know that unlimited data is almost a thing of the past, right? Do enough streaming and you'll be paying AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, etc. a lot more than what a Sirius/XM sub costs. Y'all have fun with that.

10 000 MP3 files vs. my personal MP2 collection of about 30 000 items (more or less.)

Just sayin'.

I think you need to do the math. I listen to Iheart often and never go over my 2G of data per month. Even if I did, another gig would only run me $10.00. That is a lot of radio listening time. No, your figures don't add up. Besides, it really wasn't just the money as far as the reason I dropped XM.. It was the reduced playlists and the programs that they no longer offered that I happened to enjoy.

I realize to some readers it appears that all we do is bash this service, but it really is an issue that XM could care less what subscribers think or want, as they have proven over and over, so this Board is a good place to "vent" with each other and the issues that have frustrated many of us who LOVED the service at one time.

I should try the internet stream. Its cheaper and maybe it'd be better quolity. I wonder if you can get a free trial of that. probably not.

The merger is what caused me to cancel my sub back in January 2008. Mel and his estranged son Hoo-Hoo Howie wanted to control what was their biggest threat, Opie and Anthony. It worked. People dropped their My-Fys and subs soon their after. You can just get their shows off of audible.com. Obviously you aren't all O&A fan boys so I'll just show myself the door now.

If you're not a subscriber and haven't had a trial subscription before, you should be able to try the Internet feed free for a week.

It is cheaper to record it off a radio station, if you are lucky to find one with the format you like on to MP3.

Of course the vinyl at Goodwill's are cheap, and sound better than CD.
