The Delta

We haven't heard much out of The Delta in some time. Heard that Greenville was to get a new Market Manager and never heard who or if it happened. Guess they are still suffering from some of the same old problems such as sales and talent. Larry Fuss runs a first class operation and I hope he makes it in Geenville.

John Speeney is the new market manager in Greenville. He's been there since March 1. Still looking for qualified sales people. You can only do so much without good sales folks. Most people have no work ethic anymore. I remember the old days when you could hire some folks with the "fire in the belly" and they'd get out and make things happen. There are very few of those type people around anymore.

Larry this is not something that is uncommon. There seems to be a lack of sales people, much less qualified sales people out there. In this world of comuters, IPads, Droids, and the other gazillion electronic devices the old fashion values are slowing being left by the wayside. I wish you good look with your stations in Mississippi and will be looking for your success stories!

Part of it too is radio overall has degraded as far as a entertainment industry, so there's less people willing to stick it out as sales people in our industry. It's less enjoyable and there are other things sales people can do as a "job", so we get worse sales talent willing to be in radio sales. The LFs of the industry are once again suffering from the reputation of CC, Cumeless, and other corporate guys that gave us a black eye. Good luck Larry. I hope you can find an excellent sales person. You are one of the few left that really deserves a great staff as you are still one of the good guys trying to improve our industry.

In defense of the Delta, hasn't it always been outside any major operator's control? I tend to remember all the stations being owned by either locals, local companies or companies with a reach limited to just a few southern states. Nobody like CC or Crumulus or the like has even been in to spoil things.

Business can't be to bad in the Delta for Larry Fuss just put the finishing touches on his purchase of the stations in Greenville that he has been operating under an LMA with Debut. From what I hear, Debut lost a ton in this market due to not being local and a management team that was "trade" happy and the feeling they could win by being "Debut". Good luck Larry!
