The depths

:(
How sad, the depths to which this board has sunk. Absolutely no traffic in 11 days. No new threads, and the top five threads have no more than 5 replies. Is there somewhere else we can go to get current news and comment about the industry? Looks like the folks truly killed in when they shut it down months ago.

A combination of not being there, and when it was restored, a sequence to rejoin which is more complicated than people want to put up with. When I bother, I do so as a guest. I've no interested in a fifteen letter password containing 3 non-alpha characters, two upper case, and no repetitions beyond two. What bs.

Mike, I think the real problem is that the Atlanta radio market is dull and non-creative. Listen across the dial.....its boring.
Unless there is true breaking news or a weather emergency, Atlanta radio listeners are not attracted to the formats we are offered by our local stations. Dull, yes ! And large corporate management that only wants its sales people to bring in the big dollars. No traffic on this website because there is nothing worth commenting about. We have too much Herman Cain,
Michael Graham and the Kimmer type programming. Where are the real personalities. It was a bad move when Boortz retired. He was the only thing left on the air that was worth hearing. And as far as music programming, it all seems to sound alike. Thank goodness for XM satellite radio and Pandora.

I agree Cave Man 77. B.O.R.I.N.G. The sad thing is, I think it's going to get worse. Pandora, Sirius/XM, and my hard drives take really good care of my ears.

I was thinking the same..but have visited other markets in this forum, and they are alive and informative...have to agree, what is happening here, is indicative of the Atlanta market...DULL

Nobody's flipping or threatening to flip. Not many hirings and firings or shakeups with Arbitron. About the only news is what's going on at Album 88.

News Nugget! 680 The Fan is the new flagship station of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets!

I disagree with most of you. Even during slow times, this board use to be all a buzz predicting what COULD happen even when nothing at all was happening. I think when this board went bye bye; Some people quit while others went to radio insight. Now the board is back up and some are back (like myself), some said screw them and stay over at radio insight and some just does not know the board is back up.

I'm missing a lot of active members that use to be on this board before it shut down.

XM and Pandora are no different from OTA. Run by "large corporate management" that wants to "bring in big dollars." Voice-tracked formats run by computers. No humans in sight. You just accept all the negatives because you can hear the music you like. But truthfully it's the same dull, predictable stuff.

I have to agree. Atlanta radio is boring. With the competition between Newsradio 1067 and WSB Radio all but dead, there is not much else going on. Sadly, to get my fix for news radio, I have to listen via streaming to either All News 991 WNEW or 1010 WINS.

As to music, I am listening sometimes to TOC. But, that is about it. Boring.

While there may be some truth to the 'corporate' thing, I must honestly say, I have been an XM subscriber from its inception. I do not ever hear commercials, other than for other program/channels on the SiriusXM Network. Other than 'talk radio', I never listen to OTA anymore, and could not name five FM stations on the Atlanta dial...OTA is no longer my life. I have XM in the car, home and need no other entertainment.

I think it's a combination of things. When this board temporarily died, some members went over to the other board. So we now have 2 boards dividing the traffic. But a lot of people never heard about the other board. And many former posters probably do not know this board is back. I also agree to some extent that things in radio here have been pretty boring lately.

If you visit other boards on this site, they come up with creative topics, and don't just react to what's happening on the air. Boring radio is no excuse for a boring discussion board.

Let me add something else---- We have had news of a buy out of 107.1 by COX and a change of format. This news has been out for 24 hours (as of this afternoon) and NOTHING has been posted on this board. The dead nature of this board has NOTHING to do with the lack of moves in the Atlanta radio market - Radio Insight has a discussion on this topic but it's only 2 pages long. I remember about 2 years ago, when breaking news regarding an FM format change became public, you could have 20, 30 even 50 pages worth of comments surrounding it.

When Radio Discussion Board died last year, it never came back to life. This is just the ghost.

When we relaunched in February, an email was sent out.. however there were a lot of bounces (people not keeping their emails current in the system, some because the IPs did not deliver the messages), and a lot went to spam/junk. I will be sending out a new email soon, hopefully will get through better this time. In the meantime, feel free to tell your friends we are back. Share us on Facebook or Twitter... We would greatly appreciate it!

As far as being a ghost... hardly... there are many very active boards on the site. Just look around.

This market is about the most stale load of bread on the shelf. I don't think the forum has much to do with it. Atlanta radio is the most dry, boring major market in the country. With the prolonged death of Album 88 about 2 weeks out (unless something changes), there is nothing for music fans. And unless you want to hear right wingers, no real talk variety. So, back to Sirius XM, TuneInRadio, Spotify, Pandora, etc.

I actually re-upped my Sirius XM for another year on my new (well last year new) Elantra. I've found if you call them and act not that interested, you can negotiate for a good rate. Got the Mostly Music package for $80 for a year paid in advance. Including taxes and fees.

So, not much to talk about in this stale market because there isn't anything worth listening to.

Don't blame stale radio for stale discussion. Creative people can make lemonade from lemons. Complaining about boring radio is no more creative than the radio itself. Unless the same people responsible for the radio are also here discussing it. And I don't think that's the case.
