The DJ's Who Are Promoting Oldies Back On WCBS-FM-Who's Missing ?

Just realizing I heard most of the former WCBS-FM DJ's promoting the New WCBS-FM Back on the air...

DJ's heard so far...Steve O'Brien, Dan Daniel, Harry Harrison, Ron Lundy, ...

DJ's Not Heard so far...Dan Ingram, Bruce Morrow, Bill Brown, Mike Fitzgerald, Mark Summers,...

Any others ?

Ingram had left CBS FM under bitter circumstances, so I doubt you will be hearing him on a promo, Randy Davis is missing as is Mike McCann. If your post is correct, (I heard the promo with Harry, Lundy, O'Brien, Daniel......) I don't know if there are other versions of it, then we also have not heard from Bobby Jay. Mickey Dolenz also is not on it, although I doubt the core CBS-FM listener is going to complain.....................

Or ... No Women Allowed

Steve O'Brien is available -- he's being pushed out of the morning show at Magic 98.3 in New Jersey.

As for the others? Dan Daniel is all but retired, Harry Harrison lost his job in the Jack flip, Ron Lundy is retired, Dan Ingram wants no part of CBS, Bruce Morrow works for Sirius, Bill Brown lost his job in the Jack flip.

Since you love the ALL-MALE AIRSTAFF why don't you hire a few Good Guys from WMCA? Oh wait, they're dead or too old.

CBS-FM (or any Oldies-type station) doesn't need 65-75 year old disc jockeys reminding everybody of 1963. That is no discrespect to these legends but if you're going to try and appeal to 40-somethings, having a jock on that your mom & dad listened to when they were teens is no way to go.

What I don't understand is this: When they were "masking" on Wednesday on the HD2 Stream (Before the Flip) J.J. Kennedy was one of the voices masking under the name "J Ride" So why hasn't she shown up on air? I don't understand why they would not have her on the over the air product. As far as I know, she is available since was let go from WLTW. I have only heard that that she does weekend work on WFAS-FM in White Plains. I am not sure what other female D.J.s are available, but J.J. would be a good start with a strong New York history and following. Any thoughts???

Norm N. Nite is missing.
And as usual Cat only has it half right. The old jocks would be great because they
have the skills, the personality. And no matter who you put in personality radio, not
format.

You are right Mike, but since there have been requests for female d.j.'s on cbs-fm, do you know who is out there besides j.j. kennedy?

Norm N. Nite lives in Cleveland, and works for Sirius as a jock on Sirius Gold 5, live from the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.

There was a Dusty Rhoads that I heard on KFRC several years back while I was on vacation in S.F.
She was filling in for one of the other dj's (Ocean?). she was great to listen to. so much so that when
I got to my hotel room, I turned the radio on instead of the TV.

Yes, I know. Norm is an acquaintance of mine. And one of my hero's in this business, truth be told. But if I was at CBS
I would have tried to at least get some liners/messages from who ever I could. Of course considering how some were
treated it might be a short list.

And, they represent where the format WAS, not where the format is going. To most 50-under radio listeners, they are old DJs their mom & dad used to listen to. The format needs to look AHEAD, not to the past.

"Mr. Music" Norm N. Nite did indeed phone in a liner. So did Ed Bear. Mike McCann is currently under contract to CBS & working as an update anchor/production on WFAN. Randy Davis was doing sub work at Mix 102.7, pre-Fresh. Haven't listened to that station much, so I don't know if he's still around.

While I do agree the station needs to move forward, the promo appearances of past jocks is all about Public Relations--mending broken fences with the listeners in this market. What upset us was the callous way the beloved jocks of the station were canned without notice an hour before the flip to Jack in 2005. It made the front page in the local newspapers.

I think we'll see the direction the station will take in coming weeks, as the playlist opens up a bit and the initial hype & hoopla dies down. So far, I'm enjoying the music mix on the "new" CBS-FM!

Kudos to you for being appreciative that CBS-FM is back.

Randy Davis will be doing afternoon drive starting tomorrow on The Breeze (WWZY/WBHX Monmouth-Ocean, N.J.).

I'm not sure of the value in mending fences with people who likely won't listen to you, anyway. Most of those pissed after CBS-FM flipped were the Oldies die-hards, 60+ listeners. And, they're not going to listen to the new incarnation in droves.

I don't buy that for a second. What you keep missing and refuse to accept is that it was the personalities as much as the music that made the original incarnation special, and why Jack was never accepted in this market. Many of those disenfranchised listeners will in fact return "in droves" and accept the new version of CBS-FM because of the jocks. If Dan Mason & the CBS suits wanted a "Classic Hits" format, then why bother bringing back jocks with such strong name recognition in the market? Because they understand the value of these names and what they meant to their audience!

And what YOU keep missing is that Jack didn't succeed for a variety of reasons, the fact they didn't have disc jockeys way down that list. Having a buch of 65+ DJs is part of what made CBS-FM sound too damned old in the first place. You don't re-introduce a radio station targeting 40 and early 50 somethings with Cousin' Brucie, for goodness sake. He was THEIR PARENTS' fave DJ in the 60s. Old and square and NOT hip & cool for listeners born in the early 70s.

And, please back up your "will return in droves" as fact, as you purport. We're waiting.

"In droves" was referenced from your previous quote. You'll see--when the summer books come out.
