The Dominoes Have Fallen in Meridian

After the sale of the former Clear Channel Meridian/Urban properties was announced a few months ago, we all knew changes would be coming. Today the dominoes fell and here's where everyone landed:

The highlight: Q101 is back. It sounds great so far. Granted it is pretty much V 93.5 on a new frequency but it sounds great to hear imaging with "Q101" in it again. I even heard a promo cut by former Q night jock Scotty B with memories of his time on Q. The music is very well balanced. And in case anyone is wondering, I have not been asked to be a part of the staff and even if it happened my involvement would be limited as radio isn't my full time career anymore. None the less, I'm very glad to hear it back on the air.

Obviously I spent most of my time listening to Q. Here are where the others are.

93.5 is a dead carrier right now but this will eventually be the new K Love affiliate for Meridian. I'm not sure when EMF plans to have it on the air.

95.1 is going to be classic hits as 95.1 The Buzz. For the moment they're simulcasting on 106.9, presumably until MCC finishes building their studio.

97.9 is classic country and apparently will be called Classic Country 97.9. They're running "coming soon" promos but the music has already changed.

I had heard that 104.1 was not going to change but I only heard dead air on there. I'm not sure if that's intentional or if there are problems. I'll update when I hear more.

I can't pick up 1450 where I am but I'd be surprised if it changed.

So that's that! Thoughts?

Jonathan

Thanks for the update on K-Love.

Now for two questions:

1. What will become of their current 98.9 FM spot?
2. Would you be able to shoot me off an E-Mail, so we could talk? I'm still working on bringing a CCM based Radio station to my hometown and would like to see if there was a way myself and K-Love could possibly set up a rebroadcast of their new home, here in my hometown.

And yes I can pick up 93.5 FM when the winds are blowing right. That station has a powerful signal and great sound quality. Hope K-Love will have success at their new home, once they get it going.

RDP - I don't have any contacts with EMF but I've heard through the grapevine that 98.9 is on the market. Apparently they want to be rid of it pretty badly. As for setting up a simulcast over your way, I'd email their engineering department or listener relations (or whatever it's called) department and start contact that way. I know that it would take a really long time to get it going, though, thanks to red tape and that's assuming there's even a frequency for a translator available.

Thanks for the info.

I understand why they would want to dump that station. The coverage area is very small and doesn't get too far in Meridian anyway, hence the reason why they built a relay station for the north side of the city.

I'll go on ahead and contact them and see what they can do now. If I hear anything I'll be sure to pass it along.

I heard Kiss 104.1 today. It seems it's a straight urban ac station now without the southern soul/blues. However, I should point out that I only listened for a few songs.

I am glad that EMF is going to 93.5 because the farther reach toward the Jackson Market 93.9 has some interference with Mix98.7 out from the Jackson Metro Area. It worked pretty good the farther into Meridian, Where the clearer station is located. 93.5 has some interference the further into Jackson, but I want noted here that on the same frequency is WHJT but looking for the fringes of Jackson and Meridian out where I am, WHJT is not the signal that comes in at all in Forest. V93 comes in very well without interference.

Listened to 97.9 good classic mix, no commercials, dry liners between songs. Didn't hear anyone on the Buzz? classic hits station. Is the new Q101 the only station with announcers. Is Baisden still on 104.1

im so glad that they bring Q101 back. it was dumb that urban company put country on 101.3 fm since meridian got one on 97.1 fm. and im wondering if 95.1 the buzz going to switch to active rock instead classic hit? Since i live on the mississippi gulf coast i don't get Q101, but i hope it sounds good like 107.1 the monkey here on the coast

To Jo-nathan,

Just got a response from K-Love and here it is.

R.D.P.

Every letter is important to us. I apologize for the delay in responding to you. We've received a high volume of email from our listeners recently and are catching up as quickly as possible.

Thank you! It is wonderful to know you're able to catch the newest signal we've been working to bring on 93.5 FM (WMLV) when the winds are blowing right. I've attached a document with suggestions from our Engineers that might help improve the reception you are receiving.

Having K-LOVE broadcast in Selma would be great. Expanding into new markets can be difficult at this time for a couple reasons: the FCC has a freeze in effect on all new signal applications so at this time we can't apply for a new one, and purchasing an existing station can be very challenging - from both an availability and expense standpoint for a listener-supported radio station.

Currently we have no leads, so it could be some time before we are able to consider bringing K-LOVE further into your community. If you do know of a local radio station looking to change their format or sell, please have them contact our Signal Development Team at 1-800-525-LOVE(5683).

Since we don't know what the future holds we'll continue to trust God to provide and guide us. Your prayers for K-LOVE to broadcast in your hometown would be most appreciated since our Signal Development Team is always looking for opportunities to bring K-LOVE to more people.

In the meantime, K-LOVE is available online at www.klove.com and available on some cell phones via the mobile* apps we've been able to supply. If this is an option for you, click on the "Listen Online" link to stay connected to us or check out our apps at http://www.klove.com/contests/mobile-app.aspx.

Thanks for taking the time to contact us here at K-LOVE. If I can be of further assistance, please let me know.

Although this may seem like a setback, I'm still going to carry on and seek God's will as I continue to work on this dream.

RDP - I'll also be in prayer for this. K Love is a great ministry and I have no doubt it would be a blessing to the people of Selma.

To answer some other questions: Baisden is still on 104.1 in the afternoon. As for the Buzz, I highly doubt it'll be changing formats. Classic hits seems to do well around here. I doubt 97.9 will stay exactly the same, they'll add spots and tweak the imaging some soon I'm sure. It really wouldn't surprise me if they put it on the bird, honestly. And 101.3 became country when Clear Channel controlled the stations, hence why they were allowed to use the "Miss" logo and name. I was working at Q951 at the time the LMA with URB became effective.

What is the rumored plans for 106.5? Sold to the university.

106.9 was sold to Meridian Community College for the use of its Broadcast Communications Technology students. I haven't heard much about their plans but I'm sure it'll be a typical college station.

A friend of mine always says, "Let's wait and see where the next domino goes down.", or "The dominoes aren't finished falling yet, so watch for more.".

I believe people are divided into three areas:
1. Those who talk about what has happened...
2, Those who wonder what will happen...
3. AND, those who make things happen...
Please think about it. Thanks JBI
