"The Dude" fired from WEBN

The story making the rounds:

Last weekend on the Best of the Dawn Patrol, one of the pre-recorded intros that they produce every week was accidentally not edited right, and an outtake with some pretty graphic profanity got on the air. That show is put together by "The Dude," who also is the station's music director and does a late-night show.

Clear Channel's "zero-tolerance" policy kicked in, and even though everybody at the local level was willing to let it slide, the company officers in Texas were notified by somebody (CCV?) and they sent orders to fire him.

That's really sad, it could've been an honest mistake. And all just because Miss Jackson did something on a Sunday night that no kids should've been awake in the first place to see

8pm Eastern, 5pm Pacific.

It was an illegal act in public, it was an illegal act over the air, and it was absolutely intentional as indicated by the delayed timing of the cut to the wide shot and firing of the pyro.

What is he talking about? Pyro? Wide shot? Miss Jackson or The Dude?

And if it's Miss Jackson or the Dude... get over it. Life is to short.
Edited by IWorkThere on 03/25/06 07:21 AM.

Yeah! Why in the world would a bunch of kids want to watch a Super Bowl halftime show that's pretty much targeted to them? I'm sorry that The Dude lost his job, I've met him once or twice and he seemed to have it really together about radio, but the case your trying to make here is extremely weak.

I don't know how this topic veered off into debating Janet Jackson, but knowing exactly what the Dude accidentally let on the air, if it had happened before Janet Jackson at the Superbowl, it still would have been a clear FCC fine and gotten him fired. It was WAY more than just a stray 4-letter word.

Actually it was not an illegal act in public, even in Cincinnati as the breast was still covered. Also there were no public nudity or indecency charges filed against Janet Jackson.

Finally the scene was shown more on the news (especially Fox News Channel) in slow motion than it really was durring the live event. It was such a quick happening that someone walked in front of me at the Super Bowl party I attended that I didn't even see the event until I got home and saw it on the TIVO. Even then it wasn't as clear as the AP photographer's photograph of her breast.

Rumor has it the phrase included something involving the f word and the rear end.

I won't repeat it because I don't want to see anyone get fined.

First, two things: 1) this is what I was told, and I can't confirm it's true. and 2) Any of us who have been recording stuff in a studio knows that this kind of language goes on all the time, especially when somebody messes up what they're reading. But it never gets on the air.

I was told that the Dude was recording someone else reading an intro to a Dawn Patrol bit, that the reader flubbed his lines and just blurted out "oh, **** me up the ***." Then he read the promo properly, but the Dude accidentally loaded in the outtake instead. Nobody knew it until the next morning when it aired.

Her nipple was covered, therefore not completely "topless", nor a fully exposed breast. Not illegal.

I read somewhere that of the 580,000 complaints received on the event, 530,000 or so came from the PTC.

Never has the voice of the one meant more.

The FCC is out of control...they're overstepping their boundaries, and something needs to be done befo....

YOu may not see this, but just in case ya do....Can you honestly tell me that the FCC DOES NOT over react to every little thing now since the Super Bowl? If you do, it would not be fact.

I know Janet and Justin are targeted for kids, but not during a Super Bowl game.

Yes they are overreacting a bit. Sorry to keep this short but I must go and look over my fantasy football picks now so I have plenty of time to go buy the new Justin Timberlake cd!
