From this perspective, I like what I'm hearing. A nice mix of classic rock, sprinkled with a bit of 80's rock. They played songs on The Eagle yesterday that I don't think the Arrow has ever touched. i.e. Duran Duran's "Hungry Like The Wolf". Which leads me to this....with The Eagle infusing 80's rock into the playlist, songs that have been a mainstay on The Point for years, what now becomes of 106.9? The two stations are nearly the same now, and I would think that The Eagle is not only going to pull listeners away from the Arrow, but also sister station KHPT. The answer seems obvious to a few posters on this board, but will Cox try it? The Eagle vs. The Arrow for Classic Rock, The Buzz vs. 106.9 for Alternative/Active Rock. A 1-2 punch to combat Clear Channel's "Rock wall".

Would it work? Would Cox attempt it?

Would Cox attempt a Rock Wall? Possibly... Cox flipped an 80's station in Jacksonville to Alternative which put Cox in competition with Clear Channel Alternative WPLA. Cox has a Rock Wall in Tampa/St.Petersburg as well.

I've often thought an Active/Alternative with a harder edge would make an impact. Both KTBZ and KKRW are softer than other stations in their same genre.

Cox has to put a strong morning show on a Rock KHPT; would someone like "Bubba the Love Sponge" work in Houston or would he take listeners from Dean and Rog?

KHPT has been in the same format longer than anyone figured. So Cox may indeed be content to let KHPT prod along and decide not to "rock the boat".

The inevitable has happened, and within The Eagle's first week. "Jessie's Girl" played at the same time on both 106.9 and 107.5. "Mony Mony" by Billy Idol played on both stations within mere minutes. With The Eagle now playing AC/DC, Pat Benatar, Van Halen, INXS, etc. what's left for the Point? Better question, I guess, would be what now is the point of the Point?
 
Cox announced late Friday that 106.9 would now start playing the exact same playlist as their 'new' station, 107.5 The Eagle, but would be time delayed a few minutes. In conjunction with this change, the station will now go by the "Pointless" moniker.
 
stan, you are the king! It's honestly sad. There is so much potential for 106.9. My God, it reaches clear to The Triangle, up to nearly Buffalo, and down to Rosenberg pretty well. I mean how long must we rehash the same 150 80's songs, of which 50 of the exact same songs can now be readily heard at The Eagle? If 106.9 is destined to be 80's forever so be it. Add artists like Tiffany, New Kids On The Block, Bobby Brown, Color Me Badd, Depeche Mode (besides Personal Jesus, you know that wasn't their only hit from the 80's) I mean really represent the entire decade of the 80's. A one stop shop for 80's music, sort of like Jack but stuck in a 10 year time span. I mean, thinking back to all of the hits that 93Q and 104 used to play, that The Point won't even touch today is just shameful. This would be a great opportunity to abandon the 90's hits currently on The Point, push them back to Pat on the HD-2, and give someone in this town a reason to invest in an HD receiver, having a solid 80's format on HD-1 and a similarly solid 90's format on HD-2.
