The Eagle flys into Dayton

95.3 ZLR switched from classic rock to classic hits at noon today, calling themselves The Eagle. Early impressions: Sounds like they kept a lot of the classic rock tunes they were playing, added some titles, will have to listen a few days to see how far they expand the list. Anyone know if the liner voice is the same guy who was on The Star for a while? Still all music, no jocks. By the way, what time does the celebration party at TUE kick off and is free booze involved?

Did TUE ever really consider ZLR a serious threat? I know I'm only basing this on 12+, but TUE smoked ZLR every time. I would assume that the target demo numbers were solidly in TUE's favor, as well.

ZLR had softened up quite a bit in recent months anyway..might not be much of a change. With a limited signal, ZLR was never going to topple TUE, but they did provide an alternative to all the talk on 'TUE.

Got the CP for Morganfield, KY and will take time to tie it in with a local network on another frequency and see if I can get a subcarrier authorization for a Radio Reading Service out of the Job Corps center... Pray..March 9th is a major decision day for my home market and the possiblity of a major player coming in with my services being in Management.... "Skipper T."

95.3 did put the fear of God into TUE for a while. Once Bob and Tom went off TUE's target demo numbers the rest of the day were considerably softer and 95.3 made a big dent. TUE pulled back on their new and harder rock, started using the "classic rock" image liners a lot more and solidly reestablished their position in the market. You're right, the 95.3 signal limits their ability to challenge the market leaders. The Eagle is a nice evolution of the format into a softer, more mass appeal sound. We'll see how it goes during the next few months. No one in the Dayton area is playing a mix of music quite ilke this.

I'm not in the profession; but I find jockless stations boring and lacking personality. If all I want is music; I'm listening to my IPod. I feel the same about the music channels on XM. Maybe I'm the oddball; but does Cox find that the jockless, jukebox radio station works for them? I guess it's cheap to run.

Programming it against a competitor that is all talk in the morning and has a lot of talk throughout the day worked, at least for awhile..considering the signal.<P ID="signature">______________
