The Eagle in Dallas

I'd give it a 30% chance since it was killed twice by the CC and Cumulus. It would be nice to see a legend come back, but then again.

Maybe if KIOL had never jumped into the scene, than maybe we would have a better chance.

I hope this bodes well for H-town rock fans (I hope)

Market manager J.D. Freeman says it's "back to the roots" of KEGL, the station that recently dropped the Spanish "La Preciosa" format and for several years before that had been AC "Sunny 97.1." Clear Channel no doubt found that listeners still associated "KEGL" with rock, and the decisionmakers may have been thinking ahead to the eventual introduction of the Arbitron People Meter, which seems to favor male-leaning rock formats like the old KEGL.

Maybe KIOL will serve as a "what not to do" example and someone will try again with more success...

My two Clear Channel choices for rock always grate on my nerves. (New lame rock or Old lame rock).

check my post about who is going to run the Eagle. maybe Vince won't crash it like he did KLOL.

CC needs to buy a clue and kill that godawful crap currently on 101 and bring back a competitive rock format.

KLOL was "crashed" before Vince Richards arrived. It was crashed the day it became a sister station with The Buzz. The result was a lame duck (sandwiched between 2 sister stations) playing the same 15 bands and 250 songs over and over and over. I couldn't listen for more than 30 minutes without getting bored.

I would love to see rock return to the heratige KLOL calls, but it has to be different than the early 2000s KLOL.

As for KIOL......uh....nevermind. Next topic, anyone?

Wait about 2 more years from now, and CC will do something about 101. As far as KIOL goes, the station has a better life now-with NO annoying DJ's-As Jack-FM. We need station that plays THE Best Rock'n Roll-Ever! I don't care how old it is. Butfor now We'll have to hold our own breath until The REAL 101 KLOL Returns. No Hablan Espanol.

"' What' ain't no country I never heard of-They speak English in 'What'?
"What?"
"English, MotherF*****"!-Jules Winfield, Pulp Fiction

Currently KLOL is the top ranked Spanish station in Houston, ranking #2 for P25-54, I doubt you'll see any changes at 101. KTBZ and KKRW are both ranked in the top 5 for P25-54, regardless of what PPM month or week you review. What are you guys missing?

I'd say Vince has done a pretty good job! I base my opinion on ratings, what are yours based on??

Though I do agree with you that Mega is doing well, we haven't seen how it matches up against its new competition.

I think most people talk on behalf of Rock 101 because of its legendary history. I'd say that's a heck of a stand. If WCBS came back, if KEGL came back, why not KLOL. We have to wait and see how Mega plays out within the next year or so.

It would be nice to have Rock 101 come back. But just because they did it in DFW, doesn't mean its going to happen in Houston. 2 very different situations. KEGL wasn't doing well in Dallas, at all. Mega is doing great in Houston.

Both WCBS-FM & KEGL were built on tradition. KLOL on the other hand was a traditionally-built station. I think it's now enjoying itself as a spanish pop station. Don't expect anything -yet.

AND even though WBCS-FM "came" back, their numbers are not as good as pre-Jack....in fact, I think JACK had better numbers just before the flip back to "Oldies"...so much for coming back..

Any return to rock in Houston hopefully would not be from clear channel. With their double dose of Buzz/Arrow rock I couldn't stand another stale play list. Big Dog 106.9 in Beaumont is a CC station, but oddly enough has a much much wider play list of classics and newer rock. Just amazing we can't have one of those here in a city this size. A station that plays Alice Cooper and Alice In Chains... Well there is always KACC for all you Alvinites.

will the huge gapping hole in houston rock radio ever be filled? there's an entire generation of us in our mid to late 30's that would really like to hear some of the stuff we grew up on as well as the current rock that is out there.

well sometimes here on the westside near Katy Tx i can pick KISS 99.5 from San Antonio late night after 12 am. They have an awesome playlist.
