The Eagle is poking fun at The Arrow.

And they're also poking fun at Walton & Johnson in the mornings, during the station's commercial. There's proof that The Eagle might be leaning themselves towards Classic Rock, rather than Classic Hits. I think I smell a format change.

Doubt it. But they've been taking shots and competing with KKRW since day one of the Eagle. No doubt they're going head to head with The Arrow, with out calling themselves Classic Rock, It's nothing new.

The Arrow has been upping the harder edge classic rock with more older Van Halen and Guns & Roses and AC/DC but both those stations are still the lamest of the lame. Boring as hell.

I saw that commercial this evening and thought it was pretty effective.

My biggest complaint with TV spots for radio stations is that they never, ever freaking die. I've been seeing that same smoking cowboy playing "commercials, commericals, commericals!!!" for how many years? Saw that same spot just the other night when visiting some friends. Couldn't believe it.

As we speak, I believe 93Q has been poking fun at KILT-FM on how the way KILT-FM has been playing its own country music, despite of all the things that's been going on. 93Q has been going to war with KILT-FM since day one of the big battle between these two rival country music stations, and I think KILT-FM has been playing the country music ever since John Travolta made the film "Urban Cowboy", and put Houston on the map-and made Gilley's a very popular place to hang out-and it is known for its signature attraction, The Mechanical Bull. Mickey Gilley has since retired, and he moved his world-famous Honky-Tonk over to Dallas.

What's the difference between "Classic Hits" and "Classic Rock"? I've flipped back and forth between The Arrow and The Eagle and can't really find a difference between the two stations. Both stations seem to play the same overplayed songs over and over and over again.

"Classic Rock" supposedly has a bigger playlist and deeper cuts, but you're right, both stations stick with the Stairway to Hotel Freebird rotation.

I've noticed that The Arrow has put Metallica into the playlist, finally. Heard both Enter Sandman and The Unforgiven in the last couple of days. The Eagle hasn't made that move...as of yet.

  I'm starting to feel old. If/When they start playing Nirvana I'll know that my day has come and gone.

The Arrow's always played GNR & VH.

That's a negative rubber duck!! They played zero GNR until about a year after KLOL switched to Spanish-language and none before that. Surprising to hear they've played Metallica recently, but not surprising its only those two songs. Metallica always seemed out of place on The Buzz.

You know what? I wished CBS would bring back 101 KLOL back from the dead. Houston Radio hasn't the been the same without 101. 101 has been playing the best rock'n roll. Classic, Alternative, Old, New, & whatever. It would be great to see one less non English-speaking station on the FM dial. Another format I also like to see on 101 would be Oldies(Like K-Earth in L.A. or New York's CBS-FM)

it is surprising to see that Houston has no True Classic Hits station.
considering CBS has a Classic Hitter in jsut about all their major markets, all of which are doing excellent, won't bother putting one in Houston.

I know right, here in Dallas-Ft. Worth, we have a true classic hits station, 98.7 KLUV, owned by CBS Radio, which is also a strong classic hits station in the market. Oklahoma City also have a true classic hits station, 92.5 KOMA, owned by Renda Broadcasting.

The Arrow played no G-N-R until November 13, 2004. The day after KLOL flipped. First GNR song played on the Arrow was "Sweet Child O' Mine". Several jocks at the time lobbied for Metallica, Megadeth and other KLOL artists to be added to the KKRW library, but to no avail. Van Halen has been a staple on KKRW even before the KLOL flip.

While we've strayed off-topic with the classic hits talk, KILT-FM would be a more logical choice than 101.1 for the format, given the two stations current ratings.

Exactly! Something to shake things up and maybe get back some old listeners. Myself included, many people have just lost interest in rock radio all together after 101's demise. Not that it was the end all end all but jeez anything was better than what was leftover.

Recently, they've rebranded as "The Best Of The 70's And More". (Translation: "60's is as taboo a word to advertisers as oldies!")
