The end at last for "The Liddy and Hill Show??"

Maybe it's something, maybe it's not (but I suspect it is, otherwise I'd not put this Post up)....

....but each and every time over the last several years, without fail, that one or the other of those two hosts weren't on, whether Liddy or Hill, the host that was present would say, "I'm Tom Liddy/Austin is out today" or "I'm Austin Hill/Tom Liddy is out today."

On today's show, however, Tom liddy kept introducing the show as The Liddy and Hill Show.... but without mentioning Austin Hill (or a return date from wherever it is he's "away" to) in any other shape manner or form besides the show title.

The end of a show which IMO was long overdue to be cancelled, perhaps??

(And perhaps, if the Gods are smiling, the re-introduction of "The Hugh Hewitt Show" as a live broadcast than the current 3 hours delayed presentation??)

I also remember how they would mention the other even if they were gone when I listened to them a few years ago. Maybe you are onto something... who knows, but I wouldn't come to those conclusions if this only happened in one show (and one show only from what I understand from your post). Good observations!

Thanks.

As to the announcements, Hill hasn't been in all this week, and Liddy did the customary "Austin's out today" schtick until yesterday.

When one adds to that the rumors (put forth in this very Forum) that Hill is allegedly doing some sort of morning thing in Chicago, and who knows......????

Who's Liddy and Hill?
Tom Liddy is son of the nationally sundicated host, "the" G. Gordon Liddy, a former Marine and (IIRC) an attorney.

Austin Hill may also be an attorney in his own right (or he may be the single attorney of the two) and has apparently been in the broadcast and/or journalism business for some time.

AFAIK they started out in Talk together on KFYI, but when they were offered a nationally syndicated show at KKNT, KKNT dropped Hugh Hewitt as a live show and turned to these two guys instead (and they had a ::) mighty ::) empire of four stations).

I'm not sure if they would have continued to make it if they'd stayed at KFYI and accepted that station's terms (like most number one Talk stations in their respective markets, KFYI wouldn't allow its afternoon Drive slot to be alotted to a antional as opposed to a local show), but for the better part of what?? Five years or so now, most of their afternoon show consists of them talking for three hours straight each and every day, with hardly a caller in sight.

(No, really; they'd get by my rough guestimate, one or two callers TOPS per every show, if that; most days, though, not a peep from the phones. If I had to do that as a Talk Show Host for very long, I'd go postal!!!)

I used to listen to Talk Soup Brew with Austin Hill on KFYI. It was an hour recap show on subjects that other KFYI anchors discussed. I thought he was good. Then after Sept 11 he and Tom Liddy did special shows that dealt with the tragedy. I thought they had a great rapport with each other.

Once they got their own time slot, I think they no longer complemented each other. I stopped listening after PC Fridays, the "How Bout a Guy, (Governor Janet) Napolitano" song, and the worst thing: Liddy screaming into the microphone and Hill with that phony laugh. I rarely tune into KKNT.

They made a high-risk move by trying to become the next Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity by taking their show national and going for a 9 hour Bush-loving block. Must have been a hard decision for KFYI to let them go, but it was worth it to have a live host during afternoon drive.

As far as Hill subbing at other radio stations, I can understand if it's on his own time, but to take 'vacation' and drive to Chicago to do a morning show is something else. Read Hill's blog in the East Valley Tribune. As far a websites, Hill's personal website is the most up to date, but it does have a lot of stuff, mostly pictures, from the KFYI 'glory days.' I never saw Liddy's name mentioned. Liddy's website is sporadic. Liddy&Hill is the worst. The banners on the sides haven't changed in two years.

Good luck to both of them.

wasn't hill and talk brew on 1280 ktkp, radio phoenix, with all news?

i sure do miss the days of all ap news on 1280, later 1010.

The scuttlebutt is that they abandoned KFYI to go after that attempt at national syndication on KKNT as part of the then-fledgling Salem Radio Network.

And now, for the bad news:

Both Hosts were back on the air today.

DAMN!!!

I thought I was so close!!!

(What does a fella have to do to get Scott and Casey on the air in their stead?? ;) )

We probably won't ever learn the truth why they left. Maybe CC didn't want to syndicate an afternoon show and L&H got the deal from Salem.

I tuned in just to check and see if both would be on. I guess that means Hill is still available for other station bookings! ;D

Most Number One Talk Stations in a major market refuse to allow anything other than a local show for their Afternoon Drive; I would guess that we the listeners prefer it that way.
