The End is near?

I'm hearing the ax flew over at the End today. Does anyone have any details on who was let go and whether or not more changes are coming down the pipe?

One can only hope they stick a fork in it more sooner than later.the transferring of laslo to seattle will go down as one of the gold medal faux pas in the history of exitcomm programming.blow it up start over again.
and they are still doing that insipid FU line.

I heard it was Jim Keller and DJ No Name.

Both very taleneted, and nice guys. I hope it all works out for them.

Let me get this straight. They had to axe a couple of guys because of budget issues, and the two they axe are No Name and Jim Keller.

No Name.

Jim Keller.

Just want to make sure I got this right.

But they're keeping the FU line. Well, thank God for that.

Why even call it The End anymore?

Unbelievable. This is market #14. We deserve better than Lazlo and Carolla.

Those two had the only shows I even listened to on The End.
DJ No Name's replacement - a request taking computer is retarded.

I also went to Harms' myspace. He posted in his blog last night that Monday 3/10 was his 5 year anniversary doing the evening shift (longest tenure since Marco Collins?) and it was also his last show. He said he'd still be on the station, just not in a regular time slot.

Unbelievable.

I wasn't really a fan of Harms, but there was no denying the guy knew his music and seemed extremely passionate about it. I thought No Name was extremely talented, and well Keller from what I read had been there forever as APD, playing second fiddle to Phil Manning.

I just think if they are trying to really save this station, they fired the wrong people. Middayers and night jocks and an APD aren't the reasons the station has struggled. Its a syndicated morning show and an afternoon show that Entercom shares between Seattle & KC. Reminds me of the Marconi show that was being broadcasted in Seattle and Portland. How did that work out for Entercom? If I remember correctly, they lasted all of 40 shows.

All you need to do is look at rock stations like KZOK and KISW. Live and local with talent that kicks ass. Granted Leykis is on KISW overnight, but the important dayparts (especially mornings) have talented local talent that truly cares about Seattle and its listeners, and that is why those stations are dominating a station like the End.

2 words for thee end's failure:jerry mckena(sp),terrible terrible out of touch, knee jerk, short sighted management.keller deserves better than p**s boy to the incompetent.instead of the death toll from the war, laslo should play 'taps' for the ever dwindling Thee End audience of which he's driven away.

here here!

ok, not sure if I'm digging too deep or not here...but...went to harms' myspace as someone above suggested. In his "companies" area it says:

harms's Companies
K107
seattle, wa US
dj/music director

12/98-Present

What the hell is K107? typo? possible re-branded name? like i said, maybe I'm digging too deep but it seemed a bit odd.

Well, this one's tough considering the station as a whole is on its way out. But really? Getting rid of Jim Keller? Isn't he the human form of The End? How long had he been there? Feel bad for No Name getting burned twice by Entercom.

Maybe they should get rid of YES MAN Jerry McKenna. That guy is a complete joke anyways.....

Letting Jim Keller go is just plain wrong. He's the last one from Seattle's original modern rock radio heyday of the early '80s (he kept KJET going all during the decade.)

He's the Gary Crow of modern rock. He's been with us almost as long. Sad to see him go.

KNDD these days is just up to here in outdated syndicated radio filler (Adam Carolla, Lazlo...whatever he is) and overblown "hype" bands. There are so many awesome indie bands out there and it seems like KEXP always keeps getting the best of The End....

All I knew is once Death (Carolla's Family Guy alter-ego) got the morning spot on KNDD...well, go figure.....

It's just a shame what has happened to this station. I remember years ago, this station was number 1 on my preset. Andy Savage helped me through my hellish commute, I'd get to the office and listen to Dick Roseti, Bill Reid for the drive home, and anytime I had to run errands after work, i could count on dj no name (handling nights at the time) to spin some great hits. And when the weekend rolled around, I could be out to 3am on a Saturday night and still my alarm was set for 8 to check out Jim Keller's resurrection flashback sunday.

Then Dick and Bill get fired, Savage's show is not renewed, and it seems the downward spiral starts. Folks like Jim and No Name were the only ones left from that period when this station was at its best. Now they are gone, and as a listener, so am I.

I'll continue to stick up for Carolla, I think his show is smart and funny....and I will keep listening to it. HOWEVER, DJ no name was great, and the church of lazlo is terrible.

I find it ironic that most of the local air staff was fired, EXCEPT for the station manager's crappy show.....which has been simulcasted into Kansas City for the last 6 months to a year because they were so loved there. Seems like this guy is looking out for himself first, and the station second.

Lazlo: You aren't funny, you aren't interesting, neither is your wife. This is Market 14 - program already.

I pretty much left after they reneged on their "Alternative Declaration", when I gave KNDD a chance to redeem itself a worthy (and highly coveted) position on MY presets.

I've been down in Hellevue the last week and put up with KNDD during that time. Even my crew, End freaks most of them, gripes about it now. But not everybody is a Killers or Paramore fan and conflicts used to erupt, so CDs are out of the question. But they think the music on KEXP is too strange for them. It does feels good to get back to CJZN (The Zone @ 91-3, Victoria) territory. I've just got a brand new laptop and Wi-Fi for it (and Bose speakers) now so when I get back there on Friday, I'm gonna treat them to the BEST modern rocker on the Northwest dial these days. It can pretty much finally satisfy everybody (including my drywaller who loves Econoline Crush, she wears their t-shirts and is a total freak of the band - pretty good taste, I say!)....

Well... that does it for me, too. From the looks of it, they even yanked the "End On Demand" link for Resurrection Flashback Sunday from the site.

Lazlo and crew are terrible. UNlistenable. I can tolerate Carolla, but only because nobody else is playing much music, either.

Now, if we can just get Bill Reid, Jim Keller, Robin/Maynard(?), Andy Savage and a few others together... We'll find an old, abandoned radio station, clean it up... Hey, kids, let's put on a show!!!

Seriously, though... If Jim Keller happens to read this or if someone here knows him, he should know that his work was appreciated and that he's one of the few jocks I would deliberately follow to another station.

Agreed. I would love to have a modern day version of The X or something similar. Ditto on the Jim Keller comment.

Andy Harms to the MD/APD chair.  Jordin Silver to nights...  Stay tuned, they should have this ship headed somewhere.

If I were to re-program the End,  I would ditch the adolescent sounding liners and FU line, traveling troll...
Let go of the self-depricating remarks, the train wreck imaging, and become focused on the music.
observe KNRK 94.7, Seattleish. Smooth some things out, don't try to be "in your face". That makes for a quickly fatiguing set of ears.

Musically, no more Alien Antfarm, Paramore, or Panic at the disco, not trying to single out any bands, but some sound out of place next to Soundgarden or Pixies.

go back to Classic leaning archives, yet modest mouse, arcade fire, snow patrol, death cab, jack johnson, Muse, bravery, etc  stay.  Local artists, bring forth the best... A more organic sounding corporate owned station...

Allow talent to make genuine decisions on how they want the show to sound, yet keep it relevant to the ears which will have been fostered by the musical sound of the new station, no more ranting about topics one can do without, Britney, laxatives, bathroom discussions etc... If you have a discussion about the topics aformentioned, keep the discussion intimate, rather than looking for the next punchline you can seguway into a stopset with.

A station such as The End, is one where you cannot try to be all things to all people, you have to find a pathway, vary from it to avoid stagnation, but keep the same idea flowing, see the trees for the forest.

my two cents...

So they fire an APD with around 20 years of experience for one with about 5. Then they take that same guy with his 5 years of on-air experience and a decent following and replace him on-air with some gal who was a part-time promotions girl who made a few on-air appearances on DJ No Name's show. It seems to me the ONLY reason Harms was taken off air is so he can spend his 8 hours a day doing Laslo's work while laslo tries to focus on his show. Just sad. I am here to tell you that these changes are just the beginning at the End. Entercom management, although mocked ocassionally on this board, is too smart to realize that these recent changes are all that are needed to fix this station. These recent moves are just a temporary change to save a few bucks, keep the ship afloat, and decide over the next few months whether or not they should spend the money to fix the End or whether its in their best interest to flip it.
