The END morning Show?

Honestly who cares? I had hopes that this would signal a shift in the right direction to return the end to its glory days. Instead, after a couple of days of great older alt. being played when Eddie Spaghetti and Sean Nelson were filling in, now they are back to a heavy focus on new music.

Then to boot they are no longer taking listener opinions on their website on who they would like to see doing mornings. This guy Mike is clueless. Here is a chance to make a big buzz and get people talking about the end again and here he is "trying out" nobodies from around the country.

I am here to tell you, it might not be this year, but the End will be the first station that gets flipped in this market. After another mediocre year, the big wigs at Entercom will decide to split up the ends playlist between KISW and KMTT. KMTT will take the tracks that are appealing to an older audience, KISW will take the heavier stuff, and the end will finally be put out of its misery.

I don't think it would take that long. I am already hearing plenty of the ends core artists being played on their sister stations. KISW has a good selection of the grunge, and the mountain is already spinning artists like Death Cab, the Killers, and Kings of Leon. There are very few songs that are exclusively played on the end.

Aces and TU are both cracked.

The End is sounding good and how can anyone say they are playing the same titles as Mountain or the Rock Box. Muse, Metric, Franz Ferdinand, Eva Maria, MGMT and others. They play their own new songs but share some library...which is what you'd think.

And I'd say KISW is playing more of Ends library than the other way around.

But all three stations have distinct playlists and personality so they just need to get some personalities that aren't on some stuck up thing or sound like strip club djs.

To me Aces and TU are more right than crguy. I wish the End pulled even more of the better stuff from what KISW plays or really what they used to play or should play.

They are doing some. The End has picked up the rotation play of Alice in Chains and I find that to be enough reason to flip up there every so often but it is rarely more than one vintage grunge track. Too much of the old stuff they play is punk which rarely appeals to me. The best recent college pop stuff I can enjoy well enough even if not my first choice. At least they seem to have cut down on the over the top emo stuff. It is a mixed bag. Still mainly going for the young crowd but token offerings to pull some 30s & 40s who might have younger / faster music tastes than what the Mountain offers or will offer.

The Mountain now pitching itself as "northwest", "regular folks".
The End pushing "world famous". I see no value to that pitch. It is too pop and shallow a tag. It could be a harbinger of other wrong direction moves. It should be about Seattle and rock period.

The next morning show is probably make or break entirely or at least break for being anything other than a minor station. If they try to hook an older crowd- and presumably want to keep them then the music mix needs further shifting of proportions. If they want to be young and stay young and have buzz they better pick young and probably local morning hosts and really good ones.

The bottom line here is that if Entercom does not want to put money into a show, you will either get something piped in from another town or some out of towner just filled with joy that he or she is making 15 an hour working in market 14.

Plus I don't know Mike personally so I don't want to put him in this category, but most PD's have such big ego's that they want to be the ones that get the credit when a station pulls in good numbers. So if Mike just went back and implemented the Alternative Declaration, which was succesful when the End had a direct competitor, then most in the industry will just credit Phil Manning for coming up with the idea, with Mike just being the one putting it into use again. If he brought back Andy Savage, Jim Keller or Dick and the station began to take off, then those jocks that once pulled in great numbers will get the credit for turning the station around. Mike wants to put his own stamp on this station, regardless if it is for the best. That way if it works, then he's the man that is rewarded for it. You saw it happen with Lazlo and look how that turned out. It remains to be seen whether this time around will be any different.

The End is a joke. Who would have thought it could sound worse than "Lazlo?"

Here's 'The Decision':-NoName pumped in Via Satellite from Pullman on the $$ Cheap,Thee End way LIVE AND 'LOCAL'!

Anyone notice this on All Access?

ALL ACCESS has learned that WILKS BROADCASTING Alternative outlets KFRR/FRESNO and Alternative KRZQ/RENO, NV are kicking off KEVIN & BEAN "best of" shows in mornings to filling the vacant slot after ADAM CAROLLA.

or THIS....

RIVERIA BROADCAST GROUP Alternative KEDJ (103.9 THE EDGE)/PHOENIX signs up with KEVIN & BEAN for mornings, replacing ADAM COROLLA starting MAY 4th.

All three alternative stations that used to have Carolla.....HMMMMMMMMMM

Who the hell is Kevin & Bean?

I might be in the minority but I truly believe K-Rock (the short-lived one here in Seattle) was just slightly ahead of its time. Had it have launched in say 2006-2007 with the End in a tailspin, we might not even be talking about KNDD today. I mean honestly what has the end done in the last few years to make you believe they would have outlasted a direct competitor?

I think Kevin & Bean would work well for The End. I say that with reservations because I'm a fan of live and local programming. But in this situation I think for the good of 107.7 this would be an excellent choice for mornings.

Three things catch my eye here.....24's season Finale is on the 18th...could be a publicity stunt for the show. Also, Kiefer is a regular guest on Kevin and Bean, so it may be part of their launch. Also, Woody just got canned from Live 105 in SF (ironically replaced by DJ No Name...not the same one that filled in with Jamie White last month) so maybe HE is coming to be the new host?

Just saw on all access that Kevin and Bean (KROQ) will be taking their morning show national beginning Monday May 11th. Any chance BCN will pick it up?

I think we have our answer.

Oh, and did you know that Luke knows that Bean guy? He does like to drop it on TBTL.
