The End of ABN Radio

WOW.. Saddened to hear that. Ed's network was amazing. Sad to see them fade away, but not surprised with the internet providing a lot of farmers information

Mark, can you drop me an E-mail about this?

This login name at Gmail, of course. We had a reader ask about this, but I wasn't able to find any information about it.

I've been hearing this since at least early summer that things were not going well at ABN.

I never reported this on the forum as the info I got wasn't first hand And if there was trouble, why throw gasoline on a fire when it's always possible that something could reverse and things go on better than ever.

Sad to see Ed's creation come to an end.

It is gone:

With that in mind, it is with great regret that I share that today marks the final day of operations for AdVance Broadcast & Communication, Ltd.

I’d like to thank our advertising partners and friends who have supported this journey through the years. And, express my sincere appreciation to each of you for tuning into your radios to join us “on the farm” everyday.

Wishing you a blessed Holiday season,

Lindsay Hill

Sad news...ABN was a giant, and though I'm not a "farm news" listener, I still remember Ed Johnson's voice and the rooster!

Are there any "Ag Radio" competitors in Ohio, or is this it for the category?

Bart and Dale seem to have a decent affiiate list:

Did any stations run both? Did Ohio Ag Net basically win the war?

I'll have to check out WQKT in Wooster, the only affiliate that reaches up here. I know 'QKT ran ABN back in the day.

Not sure if some ran both since naturally ABN's station list doesn't exist anymore. However, looking at Ohio Ag Net's list I see a great deal of stations that were apart of Ed's network back in the good ol' days.

WLOH was an affiliate of both as were probably several others. Without going into details, the failure of ABN had nothing to do with competition with the Ohio Ag Net or other external factors.
There was room for peaceful coexistance of the two organizations.

Well it is somewhat telling that there was one thing missing when the party made the announcement.

WNDH in Napoleon. Yes, most pertinet farm/agribusiness info can be found online (over in Indiana, WOWO has the "Little Red Barn" link for farm news on their website; a nod to their old morning show, obviously.); However, I know a lot of farmers who still listen to the radio for prices, etc.

WNCO/1340 in Ashland also has been running the morning ABN newshour at 5am, even after flipping from standards to talk radio over a year ago.
