The End of an Era

The Polka Party which has been a staple on WRYM 840 AM in Newington for 30+ years has been cancelled. This show has the unique distinction of being the longest running "remote broadcast" radio show as the show originates at the Polish National Home in Hartford and not the WRYM studios on Willard Avenue in Newington.

Jeff Banas (long time co-host) had been holding down the show since early 2007 when long-time host John Jeski was stricken with a Brain Tumor. Since then numerous sponsors have cancelled their contracts, leaving the show with an uncertain future.

This Sunday is reportedly the last day The Polka Party will be aired on WRYM. No official word on what's gonna replace it, but one would assume it's just gonna be more Spanish Music unless Mr. Ruzzier decides to expand his Italiano program.

That's All Folks

That's it. Yesterday was the final edition of Polka Party on WRYM 840. John Jeski was actually on the air live from the Polish National Home with Jeff Banas and Peter Pinecki (sp?). Numerous times he thanked all his listeners and sponsors who have supported him these past 27 years. Lots of the music was of celabatory variety. Losts of VIPs were there including Congressman John Larson. Jeski also thanked Patti-Ann Jakubiak of the Polka Group "Patty and the Guys" for their tribute concert to him which was held Tuesday the 24th.
