The End of CMT?

Country Aircheck is wondering aloud if today's announcement that Paramount is ending its weekly Hot 20 Countdown signals the end of CMT:

Hot Air: No official word, but as the last remaining original music programming following last year's pause on production of CMT Crossroads and the CMT Music Awards, the end of H20C could be the end of CMT as a country music network. Parent company Paramount has been restructuring and laying off employees since its August acquisition by Skydance, but CMT has been in a years-long drawdown of staff and investment, punctuated most recently by the news that SVP Margaret Comeaux is also departing at year-end

The company also announced the end of production for MTV's Ridiculousness last week. So we may be seeing the end of the company's music channels. Hot 20 Countdown will cease production at the end of the year.

Anyone surprised? Cable (outside of ESPN/ESPN2, FS1, HGTV, TLC and some news networks) is dead. Everyone listens to country music on the radio or views music videos on YouTube now. CMT hasn't been that relevant in a while.

Most of the cable channels are just filler now. No original content anymore.
Is this why they will show reruns of one program for 8 hours straight? There's no new programming, its just binge watching of the same shows over and over There are live streaming channels for that now.
