The End of HD has Arrived!!!

It would appear that Pocketradio is correct, the rollout of HD radio has totally stalled.

Today is Monday June 11th and there has not been ONE SINGLE HD radio station added since Friday June 8th.
An entire business day with out an addition. I'm calling for a national day of morning next Monday to commerate the end of HD radio...

Good thing I have this weekend off. I can help move Ibiquity into that U-Haul Mini storage facility.

Great news - iBiquity seems to be stuck on 1325, up from 1314 two weeks ago ! :D iBiquity is getting desperate and hired more strong-armed thugs to try and force mom-and-pop to go HD:

"iBiquity Hires Tober As Broadcast Marketing Manager"

"Tober will work with HD Radio broadcasters supporting their local market programs, on-air presence, web promotions and trade shows..."

Sorry, I forgot:

New spokesperson for Ibiquity was named today:

Tony Soprano (Gandofini) as a STRONG measure of arm twisting mom & pops to utter conversion 'or else'! :D

HD Radio = 15 years too late
HD Radio = NONEXISTANT to Consumers

As long as we're on this tract, let me follow up with the following; Every new HD station adds another nail to the DXers coffin. :D

Don't forget it's 'local' listening coffin as well. ;)

I haven't forgotten. I still receive every local station. IBOC has had no effect on local listening other then providing more choices for FM service and better quality audio on AM. Of course I can't get that 250 watt first adjacent but who cares, it was noisy and it wasn't local anyway.

More AM/FM broadcast buzz and interference ensures fewer listeners.

I actually am a dxer. If I owned an am station, I think I'd put HD on it just to go "ha-ha" (thinnk Nelson on the Simpsons) to the jerks. I'd almost do it even if I thought it was the wrong thing to do, because I'm not exactly the kind of person who can be pushed around.

Immature? OF COURSE! I'm not claiming otherwise!

What did you do when they stopped making LP's? Can't play a CD on a record machine can you? It's called evolution.

That evolution is called MP3, like it or not that is the evolution and it's either broadcast on air, played through the internet, WIFI or portable mp3 player.

I don't listen to CD's anymore so yes evolution of music and content has progressed, but if you think the days of someone sitting in front of a radio to listen to music is still 'hip', or people carrying around CD carry cases, well even this 50 year old knows better!

Well I don't "listen" to cds much anymore. But I still BUY cds...rip them to my 'puter, THEN listen. The quality (of cds) is better than stuff that originates online. Hard drive space is cheap, so I can store the files uncompressed, then "compact" them to whatever size fits the particular device, and I'm "good to go". If you are buying stuff online, rather than hitting the used cd stores, YOU ARE PAYING TOO MUCH! Why pay a dollar per track for drm restricted bs files, when you can buy a whole freakin', uncompressed cd for 5.99, with 20 tracks on it? A couple o' minutes in Windows Media Player (insert your favorite ripping program here...Exact Audio Copy is great for perfectionists), and you have something BETTER than anything you can buy online, and it's DRM-free!

Don't tell me you steal mp3s. You DO believe in rewarding the efforts of those who make the music, don't you? ;)

By the way...if you truly don't use terrestrial radio anymore...

a)-Why are you here?
b)-Why do you care about the future of a medium you don't use? (see a)
c)-Why do you assume that because YOU have adopted a certain pattern with your listening, that EVERYONE does, or will do, the same? Arbitron proves that ratings for terrestrial radio are NOT dropping like a rock. Like it or not, the sky ain't falling! Take it from people here who actually work in commercial radio. We're not worried about where our next meal is coming from!

"FOLLOW-UP EDISON MEDIA RESEARCH STUDY ON 12-24 RADIO LISTENING SHOWS SHARP DECREASES IN TSL AND USAGE"

"Now, with iPods, podcasting and Internet radio, today's 12-24 listeners have even more alternatives to terrestrial radio. It is vital for broadcasters to study this newly-updated data and take action."

Outside of the Baby Boomers, terrestrial radio has no future - the sky is starting to fall, and you will be jobless.

Mike that's wonderful for you... But I have to admit you have this 'stealing mp3' situation going, is this something YOU do and do it so well you believe others are in the same line you are? That would make you one big hypocrite to say the least!

No I don't buy CD's anymore, I listen to music online when I'm away from home, or use my mp3 player, the music loaded onto the mp3 player is either public domain (classical) and or ripped from my cd's. Does this satisfy you? When I need new music it comes from music services and or downloaded from either Itunes.

But if you're going to insult me, please do so in a dignified manner!

It's my RIGHT to be here, I listen to radio, I play music on radio, I talk on radio and radio is a hobby/business for me... and yes if I view radio as a medium that is in need of help I will be there, the trends I'm seeing not by me but by many others I've seen and talk to is that radio is a dying medium, sure it's stronger than the other mediums but it's losing ground, you may not think so locked in your closet world believing change is not there but others aren't in the closet with you.

That's funny because people that ACTUALLY work in radio are the ones crying out that radio is a dying medium!

"Radio Failing Online"

"Online listening to AM/FM stations represents less than 1% if the total quarter hours in the 30 Fall, 2006 markets Arbitron analyzed. The proportion of listening went up causing a modest increase to individual station ratings but the overall number is bleak."

If 1% of listening to stations is online, so what. Most listening is to the actual broadcast signal, not online. Total online listening is in itself a tiny part of what Arbitron reports as "radio listening." While online listening overall attracts about 20% of the population once a month or more, the amount of time listened is much smaller than to terrestrial radio.
