The end of O-Rock?

I'm not one to enjoy smearing rumors around, but with the last three books being disgraceful, and now holding down the spot of lowest rated FM, how much longer does O-Rock have?

And what do you think the future holds for 105.9?

105.9 is actually doing better in Daytona Beach and Melbourne. They're at 3.3 in Daytona and 2.5 in Melbourne. But that was in January...

The managment nor the sales execs give a crap about Volusia or Brevard. The money as far as these groups are concerned is in metro Orlando. I remember about 10 years ago Magic 107.7 and Cool 105.9 both had extremely high numbers in the Daytona book. Was there even 1 sales exec assigned to that area? Nope.

I think the end is near for O-Rock. With WJRR continuing to increase their share and the new rock format struggling in many markets, I'd expect CBS to throw in the towel soon. Could it even be as early as this holiday weekend? Since they went through the trouble of signing Drew Garabo, I say flip the station to Free-FM (July 4 would be a great day to do it) and use Drew somewhere in the lineup. With O&A now and option for mornings and Real Radio 104.1 fading, I say the time is right for an FM talk competitor. When you're finally being beaten by Lakeland's WPVC in total listeners you can't do any worse.

OK I was in the middle of writing this when my browser decided to shut down on me.

Considering no station in Florida has a Free FM, 105.9 would be a good choice for one. If that were to be, this would be the kind of schedule they probably would have:
6-9 AM-Opie and Anthony
9 AM-2 PM-Drew and Mel
2-7 PM-Bobby Smith & The Sexy Savannah
7-10 PM-Jody and Scott
10-12 AM-Loveline (Sunday through Thursday)
12-6 AM-Free Rock Overnights

IMHO they either need to go talk or music, not both. Playing one song an hour in the morning is not going to do it for fans of the music they play, they will turn to (if not already) WJRR. Same thing in the evenings where they play something like three or four songs an hour. And now it's spreading to afternoons too. If they drop all the crap and go back to music they will just compete with WJRR and flip flop in the ratings books like they used to do. If they go all talk they will compete with WTKS (not to mention WFLF & WDBO) and that would just be stupid, but then again their owned by CBS. Now that they are some kind of hybrid now they will just continue to fall. They might as well just start running infomercials on weekends. And yes I know WTKS plays somewhat similar music on overnights and during most of the weekends, but they have been at it for a long time now and have a listener base for that.

9 to 2 with Drew and Mel would get old very fast. I would enjoy an FM Talk format though.

Anyone else see this coming?

Perhaps this should go as it's own thread, but it kinda fits in with the end of O-Rock theme. Now Savanna is on mornings with Drew and Mel has moved to afternoons with Bobby. I guess their useing the we got nowhere else to go but up approach ;D

Is it just me or do both Sexy Savanna from WOCL and Launa from WJRR sound like male midgets? Neither of them sound sexy at all. The first day I heard Launa on WJRR I thought Taco Bob was interviewing Mini-Me from Austin Powers. Maybe I'm just bitter because there is so much "talk" on these stations now. I want to hear some music, not discussions on diarrhea or bangin chicks. It's been done a million times.

Yup, Launa was apart of 98Rock in Tampa for a good while. After Bubba was fired and The Fiasco took over morning again at WJRR they hired her.

I really don't think that Ed Tyll would give up his stand-up comedy act in New York City to return to radio. http://www.edwardtyll.com As a listener to O-rock 105.9, the only 2 people from wtks that I would ever consider listening to on a regular basis are now on O-rock 105.9. Okay Okay, I would lend an ear to Melissa Foxx. Is she still with wtks?

Yeah, see.. it was a joke. Kidding. I really don't think the management of O-Rock, despite their ridiculously poor hiring decisions to date, would get so desperate as to bring in Tyll, even if he is embarking on what looks like an amazing career with regular gigs at the same club over and over.

You do realize he's barely one step removed from being the house act at a Holiday Inn, don't you?
