Yeah, I don't know what they were thinking with the name change. It doesn't help the station with anything that needs fixing other than losing it's brand.
I do wonder if there will be any changes at The Planet that is setting this up. WTPT just started playing, AGAIN, some older tracks from bands like Aerosmith and AC/DC -- a joke as a New Rock station. And they still play the same head-banging bands the other 90% of the time. But maybe playing a few older tracks and calling 101.1 "Classic Rock", perhaps they will try to make The Planet just a mainstream rock station playing a little of everything. Anything would be an improvement over their current playlist. If they keep it the same, then those older tracks that had been removed is a step backwards and a strange move. It's far from being "New Rock" anyway. A friend of mine did a crosscheck with Media Base and found The Planet only was playing 14 tracks from the last 10 years. That's abysmal. Either change to New Rock completely and actuallly play more new things (and be more inclusive of all new rock, not just the hard stuff) or turn it into a pure rock station. There's nowhere to go but up.
Anyway, sorry to derail the thread into The Planet talk, but it may be pertinent given what's going on with 101.1.
