THE END OF RTV?

For now, no, but it doesn't look good -- with many of its affiliates moving to other networks, I won't be surprised if RTV folds by the end of next year. Most of RTV's affiliates are LPTVs owned by local broadcasters.

RTV will still be available in Boston on the subchannel of WMFP (62.2). MeTV will be on 62.1 . RTV lost a lot of clout in the national market when MeTV and Antenna TV got the rights to the Universal Library. No question, RTV has some major overhaul to do in order to get the channel to be more competitive. I wouldn't count them out yet.

In the Quad Cities, WHBF has aired RTV on channel 4.2 since December 1998...

The Retro Television Network (RTV) did not begin broadcasting until July 2005, according to their World Wide Web site.

Ever since RTN/RTV lost their distribution deal with CBS they've done nothing but continually go downhill. How much of the loss of the NBC/Universal deal was their own fault? I get the impression that they just sat on their backsides and let ME-TV and Antenna TV take it.

It won't surprise me to see RTV eventually merge with either ME-TV or Antenna TV.

However 62.2 is not on Comcast yet, and when it does get on it will be in the subchannel ghetto in the digital tier between 280-299. The main channel is on basic cable channel 20 with the other broacast outlets and would be more easily found.

I predict that Retro TV will be sold to competition such as the company that owns Antenna TV or Me TV and remain its own network that way. Maybe MGM and Warner Brothers product could become a part vof Retro TV. Me TV seems to be Viacom and Paramount while Antenna TV seems to be mostly Sony/Columbia and now some MCA/Universal stuff. Until the Summer MCA/Universal seemed to be mostly Retro TV's schedule. Actually MCA/Universal does not seem to be a big loss. They have mostly drama shows and only a couple sitcoms to speak of. I do not think drama shows test that well in reruns any way.

Still I think Retro should look into Warner Brothers product.

MeTV is CBS, 20th Century Fox, & NBC Universal, while Antenna TV is Sony & NBC Universal. Both MeTV & Antenna TV have the same NBC Universal library, but not the same shows though. MGM is out of the question for RTV, because what is still part of MGM, those rights currently belong to This TV (unless they sign rights to the same library, & not try to duplicate shows). Warner Brothers is available, & could see some great shows for RTV (if someone bought the network & run it better). I personally don't see any hope in RTV surviving. They lost too many stations, & low power only stations aren't the way to go to get into markets. For Chicago, it took Polnet Communications to pick up RTV for the Chicago market since everyone else turned it down. If RTV does go kaput, Polnet will have to decide what to put on the main channel of WPVN-CD, since RTV is currently on the main channel, while all the brokered ethnic programs are on the subchannels (including Polvision, which has yet to go 24 hours of Polish language programming).

Unless you get a decent subchannel you're doomed. With DTV in the urban areas, low power ain't gonna cut it.

I don't see RTV merging with anyone, as neither MeTV or Antenna TV need them at all.

Remember MeTV went through a LONG time of growing pains. It started out as a 12pm - 3pm block of shows, in 2004 (or was it 2003) and it took a LONG time before MeTV got it right. And now for the last two years MeTV has not changed much at all. It used to change shows a lot (four times a year it'd mix up its schedule).

MeTV runs some of the shows on RTV, such as "Route 66" and "Naked City" overnights on the weekends.

I wish RTV picked up more ITV shows when they got "The Saint". It would have been nice to see "Danger Man" every weeknight.

They just took it off here in New orleans in favor of Bounce tv :( . I really miss Movin On! Yea i know Im probably the only person that does. As far as the network itself goes I dont think its gaining any channels and its still losing so it dont look good.

^I'm sure many folks in Mobile, Alabama miss "Movin On", too, since some of its episodes were produced on location in the area.
