The End of San Diego's 1700?

1700 on your dial...isn't that just above the police calls?*

*: Thanks to the late George Carlin. ;)

Actually back in the 1930's or so 1700kc would have been a police frequency. The problem with San Diego's AM 1700 is that it has fewer listeners than police radio (and I wonder if the city has ever thought about raising money by selling 10 second ads on police radio?).

What is the current call letters of 1700?

I think "The End of San Diego's 1700" is misleading because it implies the station ever actually began.

Mark and Stacey had to know going into it that a talk station at AM 1700 had zero chance of succeeding and that the only reason you'd go to work there is because you were desperate to be on the air with some kind of paycheck.

You know I have to respect Mark and Stacy for trying to break out of the corporate mold of radio and do their own thing on a new station. One problem is, is there are many car radios and other receivers that the tuner stops at either 1610 or 1600. But the other thing is that BCA hasn't put any money into promotions for the station. NO ONE KNOWS IT'S THERE (kind of like the late great KCBQ)! But I feel bad when anyone looses their jobs, and after working with Stacy once the man is a broadcaster at heart (I dont agree with him AT ALL politically!), but I respect him. Mark Larson needs to run for congress or city council, but he needs to be in politics, he would be a great politician.

Well....at least he has the hair for it.

Not having seen his photo, are you saying that Mark Larson has
Bette Davis' eyes and Blago's hair? ;D

Actually he has Bette Davis hair and Blago's eyes.

Stacy Taylor for mayor???? Dear God Almighty NOOOOOO. He would actually have to cut his hair, and start looking respectable? I don't know if he could do that? Who would be city attorney under him Scooter the Psycho? Hell at this point Roger Hedgecock stands a better chance of mayor than Stacy does. And Roger is a whole lot less corrupt than the last 4 mayors SD has had. Plus Roger might be able to be elected again, because his biggest enemy (Helen Copley) is long gone. Plus KOGO has more listeners than the UT has subscribers!

Actually lets start a new campaign for mayor.....Jimmy Valentine for Mayor, and I don't mean for Dehesa Valley! But Jimmy's first act would be to legalize smoking in a city building! Jimmy, you can hire me to be your press secretary, I will write you the most exciting speeches since the Fireside Chats. We will show those liberal commy pinkos a thing or two!!! Did I say that out loud??
