The End of "YUUUP"

The A&E series Storage Wars will be missing one of the buyers this year. Dave Hester, the buyer with the "YUUUP" hat-will not be returning for this season, and will only be on for tonight's season premiere (12/4). He is having trouble with his contract, and I also heard that he thinks the show is fake.

Fake? You wouldn't say. I can't believe that people actually believe these "auction" shows are real. I think A&E foots the bill for a lot of these "collectibles" to be placed in the units.

I don't get how this show is still so popular. Watch 3 episodes, you've seen them all. Now they're making a NYC version.

You mean ol Dave is finally admitting that he as well as his co stars all ALL fakes.

Actually, they are making a Texas version-and it has been going on for 2 seasons now. We still watch it, fake or not. Go Barry Weiss!

Can't wait until Vince McMahon becomes executive producer of "Storage Wars". ::)

Damn. I wanted to rent a locker, stuff it to the rafters with empty boxes and quit paying on it just to watch that guy melt down after making a four-figure bid. :'(

Word goin' round on Brandi is that they're real, and they're spectacular.

A&E is squeezing as much as they can out of this series. Not only do they show the original version to death in reruns, and have the TX version, but now there's a NYC one coming. Again, I don't get the hype (it does so much better than superior A&E shows such as Hoarders and Intervention), but it's done very well for them without question. I'd think the original probably has a couple of strong seasons left, but I'd think it will get old eventually the way they've been showing it.

(a bit of sarcasm ahead)

Gosh, what's next? "Storage Wars: Spokane"? "Storage Wars Boise"? Give me a break. I love the original Storage Wars, just because of Barry Weiss. Go Barry!

Yeah, the Texas one did not seem very interesting to me. I do think, though, that it will be more successful than the NYC version that's coming.

I remember reading they were casting for a SW: Miami quite a while back, in addition to the NYC one, but haven't seen any more on it.

I like the show but I've always assumed there was a certain amount if it that was....staged. you can't tell me these 5 or 6 people are the only ones winning these lockers when 50-100 people show up to bid.

Watch them hire David Caruso to host the Miami version. :D

I heard that A&E cuts out the lockers won by other people in post-production.

They cut a lot more than that. I heard one of the producers interviewed and he says that
more often than not they find there is "nothing of interest or value" in the locker and that
footage can't be used.

95% of the time, you aren't going to find these valuable antiques that in a storage unit that has been abandoned. It seems to me it would take days of doing that to come across something. Someone told me that many times, the operator of the facility will actually go and get anything worth a lot of money out of the storage lockers before they are auctioned.

I still think A&E "plants" a lot of this stuff.

I watched the show for a few weeks, it was interesting but just way too staged. It's like a lot of other reality shows based around a profession, you see it once, it's interesting. Twice, you recognize the patterns. Three times, you see it's ridiculous.

Barry is a really funny guy, though.

Agree.

Here is who A&E is (or, perhaps, was?) apparently planning to replace Dave Hester with: http://www.realitytea.com/2012/12/07/more-controversy-for-aes-storage-wars/

I did not like that guy at all. Yikes. Barry Weiss and Dave Hester make/made the show IMO. Hester was the "love to hate" type. He seemed to know what he was doing. If he does not come back, I could see it having a negative impact on the show.

Yuck. Mark is the "other" Dave Hester IMO. Wins locker after locker after locker. And doesn't look well at the items inside (remember the NES episode? He thought it was $13,000-but in reality was worth about $10 because it was broken).

Nabila is a little better with the show and winning lockers. But I watch it due to Barry Weiss. My favorite!

I like Dave more than Mark. Dave is annoying, but I find Mark downright creepy and weird. I don't see Mark having the "love to hate" personality that Dave Hester has had.

I remember reading that A&E might be shooting a reality show starring Barry Weiss. I don't even remember what it was. That was a long time ago, so I doubt we will see it.

I don't know if Storage Wars has "jumped the shark" like the article asks, but if Dave Hester does not come back, I would say yes. Of course, I think there's still gas left in the tank. I haven't watched the new season, but if they still try to make it come across as Dave Hester, etc having a financial advantage over Jarrod and Brandi, that's kinda funny. These people have cleaned up in a huge way from this show. Not to mention the publicity, appearances, etc. If it weren't for the show, they probably wouldn't need another storage unit in their lives. Of course, for the Barry Weiss types, it's just a hobby (which the show has been pretty forward about).

According to promos for this week's episodes, Dave will also appear on this week's episodes on 12/11, leading me to wonder if there is any truth to the article.
